    Default Gothic Kights

    Like I said in another thread I play the HRE in an Teutonic campaign.
    I am now able to produce the Gothic Knights.
    Stats wise they are quite weak ( they do not use shields ).

    Are they worth their money?? I guess I'll build them anyway - they are one of the best looking units imho.

    they lack shields, but they make up for it in armor, which gives more area protection. same thing with the lancers in vanilla, same basic defense stats as the chilvaric knights, but because of the armour, it means that they have a higher defense rating from all sides.

    if u attack any other knight, u only get the full value from the front, but with the gothic knights, they get their full value from the front and the left flank. plus a good value even from right or behind. thats y as alpha said, they r so good in mellee.

    MADE UP NUMBERS---------------------------------------Knight A-----Gothic Knight

    knigh A-------Gothic Knight.........Attacked from front:......24......................24
    armour: 8----armour: 16.............Attacked from left:........16.....................24
    skill: 8-------skill: 8...................Attacked from Right:.....16.....................16
    shield: 8-----shield: 0................Attacked from behind:.....8.....................16
    TOTAL: 24--TOTAL: 24

    So even tho on the surface the gothic knights look the same defensively, and maybe even weaker cuz of no shields, when u break it down into how the game figures defense, u see at any angle, the gothic knight is very very well protected.

    front=armour+skill+sheild
    left=armour+skill
    right=armour+shield
    behind=armour

    Thats why light cavalry backcharges dont work against them...
    I dont play much campaign, more MP and when my enemy has gothic knights I try to hold them with qapukulus and backcharge with alans(of course the qapukulus win but the alans dont help as much as they do against templars for example(qapukulus would win anyway ))

    Note they have maces, which are SO UBER against armoured units, and same effective as swords against light units.

    Unlike swords, which have a hard time dealing with heavy armor
    True men don't do what they like. Men get wives and jobs to keep them from what they like.

    Speaking of maces, why is it that Dismounted Imperial Knights suck so bad? They apparently have a bonus vs armor, which might explain their stats being lower than other dismounted knights, but in 1v1 battles with other dismounties they lose pretty bad. Any particular reason for it?

    i dont know, never played the hre long enough to get them. (kept getting pissed that, 1. everyone attacks u, 2. u have to be up to fortress level before u get anything different.)

    The Stats of the Teutonic Knights are Nice but no shield means a big problem against crossbow-men
