    Default AoR question

So basically as it goes, in my current campaign as the romans I'm advancing through the Greek Peninsula and Asia minor. I've controlled the area for quite a number of years built up some Auxilia 2 and 3 buildings but I'm not seeing any local troops to recruit besides those spear throwing units whose name spelling escapes me now

I guess its a touch of realism that as a Roman, I have to ship troops from Italy to support my invasions and conquests... but it certainly is a pain in the ass. Some areas in Asia Minor allow me to recruit Thracian Mercenaries and Galatian Swordsmen along with Eastern Units, in North Africa I can find Libyan Spearman and some ptolomaic units in and around alexandria... Gaul and Northern Italy has Galic infantry and some cavalry, Italy has its swordsmen and spearmen... but pretty much all of Greece is barren. At the very least I would have expected some cheap levy hoplites, at least to help with garrison duty... but as it stands no real local troops can be trained in the area.

The Romans never used hoplites (the normal Greek Aor unit) to fight for them. You'll have to go one step further and build a provincial barracks to get some decent units I'm afraid!
