dx10 comes automatically with windows vista, if your lookign for an xp version it dosen't exist.
You also require a dx10 graphics card to use it like a 8000 series nvidia card or a 2000/3000 series radeon (3000 isn't due for a little while)
Direct X 10 is exclusive to Microsofts latest oprating system, Windows Vista.
Do not be fooled. Getting DX10 will not simply boost your gaming experience.
You will need a Vista/DX10 capable system. Do you plan to build/buy a new computer or do you want Vista on your current PC?
What specs does/will your PC have?
Is DX10 more demanding on PC hardware than DX9?
For example, can I expect around the same FPS from Crysis when I move to Vista (Sad times, but SP1 is coming so...)
Don't know about DX10 in itself, but having to move to Vista will hit you performance wise. So, depending on your specs you will probably see a performance hit.
Technically dx10 should perform better than dx9 but inexperience in software and hardware limitations at present make the opposite true.
they can't make it for xp because of the way dx10 is embedded into the vista os, it requires components from vista that are not present in xp.
This is probably just a marketing ploy to get people to move to vista though.
Is it possible to have dual installs? Both XP and Vista on the same machine would be tops.
Yer you can do duel installs but that dosent mean that ou will suddenly be able to use dx10 on xp if thats what your getting at. You will have to boot into vista to get the dx10 benefits.
On the other hand I don't get the whole vista bashing rubbish, ive yet to find a game I can't run in compatability mode and its only a system hog if you don't have 2 gigs of ram and run aero.
Yeah, I know you can't get DX10 on XP, but I couldn't be bothered booting it every time I want to use a different OS. I guess I will have to bite the bullet, and get Vista after the SP comes out.
From what I've read in the U.S. PC Gamer, DirectX 10 allows fancier effects but usually at a performance cost. The effects wouldn't be possible at all in DirectX 9, basically, because they'd be too slow. Generally it's not viewed as necessary yet, unless you want a really high-end experience.
(In other news, Wine is starting to implement DirectX 10 support for Linux, and any other OS that uses X. It would be hilarious if two years from now Wine had perfect DX10 support and everyone had wasted their cash on Vista . . . but I really, really doubt it. I can dream, though.
And yes, I know I tend to push every single discussion in this forum toward Linux. Nothing wrong with that, it's always relevant to the topic.)
Hi Guys!
Could you advice me on whether I should install direct x 9 on a vista os and will it cause malfunctions to direct x 10 in order to play older version games like the totalwar series.

Is the ATI 3850 direct x 10 compatible?
According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.

we will all be playing on dx9 for veeeeery veeeery long
