    Default Leaders respawning???

Well basically Venice has 4 provinces left so I decided to knock off his remaining faction leaders with assassins, instead of going to the trouble of taking the provinces (yet anyway), so I find out where all his leaders are and commence assassination. Then after I end my turn (after disposing of all his leaders AND a princess), he has his turn, then it comes back to me and... aarrgghhh!!! He has a new family member (exactly at the point where I killed one of the last ones), so I repeat the process, but next turn SAME THING HAPPENS! The family members are respawning. Did CA implement this in one of the patches (I'm on 1.4) to prevent players from killing off a faction by assassinating all family members? If so, then this is another fun aspect GONE!

"If you like sausage, never watch it being made". If you like the game, you probably don't want to know the extent to which the AI engine "guides" the play in a number of areas. Ever wonder why you get candidates for adoption and those hero captains only when you're low on generals?

Yeah fair enough I'm fine with turning a blind eye to cheats that make the AI stronger, since I want a game that's reasonably hard. I just didn't expect to have leaders respawning since in the vanilla M2 you could knock out a whole faction just by assassinating its leaders, and the provinces would turn rebel. Oh well I suppose I'll have to take out Venice the old fashioned way... HAMMERTIME!!

if you did not get the faction destroyed message, as well as all provinces turn rebel you did not kill all of his family members, its that easy.

thats why an assassination strike has to be well planned.
+ Locate all (really all male members of the family)
    + strike in one turn
    + se voila

^^ I did, I killed all his family members, I can see who is in each town. I killed them all one turn, ended my turn and suddenly new family members became visible the next turn. And I'm extra sure because I used toggle_fow.

you dont see troops who are in hiding in the woods on the campaign map or in boats even with fog of war off

and if you kill all of them at the same time, the cities still turn rebel and the faction is destroyed for which you get a message. As long as you dont get a message you did not kill all of them.

I dont know what happens if exactly in that turn a family member comes to age but I doubt that it would safe the faction as it would happen in the AIs turn which is later than your assassination campaign. (maybe the AI spawns it later than that but still has it already in the active family member list.

MedII does not have reemerging factions.

Some characters can be somewhere in the mountains or boats as well. I use the same trick to get rid of smaller factions without making the pope angry.

Okay good points, guys. I'll check for leaders in boats or other odd places too. I shall send my spies far and wide... can spies see an army that has set up for an ambush, BTW? They ought to.

Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. There isn't a real way to be sure, especially with enemies like Poland and Russia that are in very stretched out areas.

you could take over the faction in a hotseat campaign and locate the family members directly though...

Yeah true, Samir but that would be just eeevil! How do you switch to hotseat halfway through a campaign though...? Especially since its not Kingdoms (although I have Kingdoms loaded).

    open console
    control Venice
    or in general
    control <faction>

but you have to mod your preference file.
Polak found out everything you need

I only play multifaction campaigns since defensive battles work with Polaks settings. really funny to play and the only cure agains "SANC" (start a new campaign) Syndrom
