Every time you , god kills another kitten.
If you're gonna hire Machete to kill the bad guy, you better make damn sure the bad guy isn't YOU!

Europa Barbarorum has got the best research team, but R:TR is more accesible for the new player.

Almost every mod has a historical aspect to it, some like to portray a more reaslisic aspect of some kind. Realism is a subjective opinion, browse the hosted mods section and you may find a perfect fit.

I currently am playing an EB 1.0 campaign and I find it overall very historical. RTR platinum, especialy when you use the Naval and metropolis mod also is IMO accurate and quite playable. How Darth does what he does has something to do with a force and a darkside.

I realize that every mod has it own historical aspect. All of these games do. I just want to play one with the correct names supplemented. The historical battles will be changed by me anyway.

The most realistic mod out there is Europa Barbarorum, but that isn't exactly the easiest.
Asking for rep is a sure fire way to not receive any, at least from this old cynic.

Why is the most realistic and why is it not easy?

It is realistic because the factions are now completely historic, the settlements, names of factions and units, the units, temples. Everything is done to make it as historically accurate as possible.
And it isn't easy since you'll probably in debt by the end of turn 3. Without building new buildings or recruiting units.

It researches everything, and has the correct cities, units, factions, and even landscapes. But the economy is very very difficult, and units have very high maintenance, so bye-bye full stack battles every turn.
