    Default 2007-2008 NBA Discussion

Thought I might start this thread because of the upcoming NBA season, although I am not sure there is as much interest in Basketball as there is football on this site. Of course I am excited, I mean my team the Pacers will suck, but there's going to be plenty of excitement and new look teams out there this year. We will probably have a new champion (the Spurs never win two in a row), and a few surprise teams (watch out for Atlanta and New York). Also, since the Pacers suck getting tickets could never be easier, and I am going to go see the Nuggets and the Celtics play coming up on the 10 and 13. So, whats everyone's favorite teams, players, etc? Whats your predictions for this year?

OH, and if enough people are NBA fans, could you sticky this Justinian?

Truth. It's like they get bored or something.

Yeah I don't know what happens to them. One year they did get beat by that lucky Derek Fisher shot, so maybe they would have won but who knows.

That was just insane. Kobe Bryant (I think it was) made a miracle shot with like 3 seconds left, then Tim Duncan drilled one from just inside the 3pt arc as he's falling sideways, then Fisher hit that last one with 0.0 on the clock.

IIRC it was only game 3 or 4. It wasn't a series clinching game.

The last time I discussed the NBA here it was with that Mango guy who said Kobe Bryant is every bit as good as Michael Jordan was. I took that as an indicator, and I've since avoided all NBA discussion on this forum.

I'm going to still hope for the best for my Bobcats. They look like they have been improving, but it seems like they are already cursed.

Orlando's last minute decision to draft Howard instead of Okafor got them a future HOF center, while Charlotte got a great, but often injured and undersized, post player.

Our youthful enthusiasm led us to win several meaningless games at the end of the season when all the other lottery bound teams were winding down, this gave is the 5th pick. If we would have had even one pick better, we could have taken Chris Paul (as much as I hate that nut-puncher he is the man) or Deron Williams instead of Felton, who is good, but not in the class of those two. Then we tried to win some wal-mart UNC fans by picking Sean May, who apparently has the knees of a 70 year old.

Then last season against all better judgement we picked the worst player in the NBA with our third pick (Adam Morrison). I watched the draft, and was literally yelling at the TV "PICK BRANDON ROY" and "ANYONE BUT MORRISON." What happens? They pick Morrison (among the worst starters in the NBA) while Roy ends up rookie of the year (which is funny because his name is Roy, and he is the ROY).

This offseason looked a little better. Got a solid scorer in Jason Richardson, and picked up Jared Dudley late in the 1st, who I think can be a very solid bench player.

What the hell are you talking about?

I said he was as good of a scorer as Jordan ever was.

But I don't want to get into it.

So you made a post to say you weren't going to post in this thread?

I've never liked watching basketball. But if this has enough interest I'll sticky it.

I made a post to say this thread won't have much content. IOW, not many real NBA fans. Especially not any long tome ones.

But I could be wrong. Perhaps we should sticky it.

So the Spurs are opening against the Blazers, who should just throw in the towel and get another good young player. I am waiting for the Rockets game later tonight, which should be a good one. Also, Jermaine O'Neal is already back to his old ways, and might miss the season opener tomorrow . The Pacers should suck so they can pick up hometown star Eric Gordan.

BTW Is Tim Duncan the best power forward of all time? Something to discuss I guess.

EDIT: The Blazers actually looked alright in the third. Aldridge is a very good player.

    Yes. Discussion over.

I didn't watch the Spurs opener, aside from the ring presentation. I still hate the arena announcer here, and I simply can't understand how the guy can be both on a major radio station (IIRC, he's on 1200 WOAI, the Clear Channel "flagship" station) and the arena announcer for the only major professional team in a city of nearly 2 million people with a voice as ****ed up sounding as that.

What about that Garnett guy, or is he more of an allround guy?
    Not an expert(me).

Garnett is very good, and certainly up there, but when you talk about Duncan, your talking about a two time NBA MVP, three time NBA Finals MVP, 10 Time All Star, and god knows how many times he was All NBA First Team. He also has four rings. Duncan and Garnett are both unselfish, and probably would be able to lead the league in scoring if they shot the ball as much as Kobe. But I still give the edge to Duncan because he is a better defensive player.

The Spurs looked good except for the third quarter MBM, they even scored 109 points . It actually seems like they might be a very good offensive team this year.

Don't forget Rookie of the year and first team NBA All Defense 10 years in a row.

    LOL, Duncan is a nerd

I can't get into the NBA this early.

Pro and college football is happening, and college BBall (my favorite sport) is about to start.

There are still like 80 games left.

I am excited now about the Pacers. They showed that alot of them do have talent, and that they can be a great offensive team this year.

Hah. I could imagine him in a 7-foot suit of plate armour, riding a horse the size of an elephant.
