This doesn't have to be the one you identify with most, if you want, you can just say which character you like the most. However it would be interesting to match your personality to a character in Tolkien's works.

For me, obviously, it's Radagast. His mission was to watch over the flora and fauna and he sort of lost track of the goings of the rest of the world--something I tend to do when I'm outside. I think I'd feel most comfortable with Radagast's mission as well.

There's something sad in Radagast's story too, since he probably didn't leave Middle-earth but instead stayed in its forests. I wonder if he wanted this (I'd like to think so). But I wonder, if he was alive through the ages, how he reacted to the changing of times....

    And you?

The character I most identify with is Steerpike..oh wait that's Titus Groan....:hmmm: LOTR, I guess there isn't one but Gollum is my favourite. He saves the day after all with his finger biting, capering gleefully antics.

I like the idea of the rangers. Unknown guardians of the towns and the peoples that have no idea of what would happen be those rangers disappear.

Knowledge of the woods, of the land, master archers and swordsmen.

I've always liked Halbarad, but it's a shame he dies at the Pelennor. But he dies carrying the standard into battle.

In LotR... well, my favourite character is Gandalf, but I identify with Denethor actually.
Or maybe with hobbits... Merry, I guess, because of his love for maps.

    I always liked Faramir.

And he ended up with Eowyn! Is there anything that man didn't do?

My favourite character is definitely mithrandir, and I suppose I do identify with him more than with most characters.

Faramir's cool but a little too stuffy. At least I get that impression.

    That suits me perfectly then!

    @SirPaladin

    Realism, schmealism.

Liv Tyler's immortal elf volunteers to give up her eternal life for a single romance with a human man. Could any man really be that well endowed? I find it unlikely.

It may be a little offtopic, but speaking of LotR characters, it may be the best thread to put this in...

    11. Damn you, gravity!

The giant firebeast thing is defeated by Gandalf when he destroys the bridge, sending the creature plunging to its death... despite the fact that it has wings.

This was retracted when a reader pointed out that the wings, like the rest of the beast, were made of shadow and fire and thus would be useless for flight. Thanks for the tip!
    Priceless!

Oh, and I don't really identify with any of the characters in the novel. Gollum was probably my favorite, maybe Boromir.
The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.

I don't identify with any character but if I had to choose my favorite one it would be Fingolfin. The guy took on Morgoth the Valar.

    Boromir.

He knows there are still strong, hopeful men left in his country, but he knows Gondor will probably be defeated without help..
