    Default 8800GT Released

    Now avilable on Newegg:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150252

Just ordered mine at $270, it was $260 when I first saw it, but in 30 min the price jumped up $10.

As of now this is THE card to get, cheaper than the 8800GTS and performs better too.

Yup, pre-ordered mine for £153, damn those crazy americans and their cheaper electronics. Still cheaper than a GTS though so i'm happy, will be a good replacement for my Radeon x1800. I guess ill actually get it in about a week since its still technically 'pre-order'

One thing im not so sure about is the performance hit between PCI-E 1.0 and 2.0, heres hoping it will be minimal, like AGP 4x and 8x or whatever.

    EDIT:

For anyone else interested, here are some reviews:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/geforce_8800_gt/

    http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...bfg8800_GT_OC/
    http://techreport.com/articles.x/13479

    and some comparisons:

One thing to watch out for is the noise... apparently its a fairly noisy card

Well nothing can be more noisy than my X1950XT's stock cooler.

Graphics cards arn't even close to reaching the limit of PCI-E 1.0 yet, I don't think PCI-E 2.0 is going to make any difference.

It's nice to see a top end card that single slot.

On November the 15th the 3800 HD gets released, I'm guessing from what I've read it will go head to head with the 8800 GT. I'm disappointed that ATI/AMD has all but given up trying to take top spot away from Nvidia at least for this generation.

    Edit:

OMG I’ve finally managed to get Bioshock working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, less heat = more overclocking too, which is always good.

So HD 3800 by November huh? If that is only meant to compete with the 8800GT then it looks like AMD is pretty screwed on their next generation card too.

    Edit:
Wow I ordered just in time, the 8800GT on Newegg is now Out of stock.

Just to let you all know the 8800 GT doesn't work with DirectX 10.1 where as the HD 3800 does, it pays to wait and see.

What do you mean "it doesn't work?"

Since it's backward/forward compatible (minus a few features) I don't see the problem.

DirectX 10.1 brings a lot of standardisation to the DirectX 10 platform, it also bring along some new features like the ability to run 4 GPU’s at once running at different clock rates. There are other features as well but I don’t want to go into it or read up on it just now.

ahhh...you poor Americans. I just picked mine up for 240 CDN (with a mouse pad, and three games to boot.)

From what I hear, the OC potential is limited on these cards...

If you're waiting that long (yup, 2 months is a looong time in hardware terms :/ ) you will want to check out the new Radeons being released in November.

    DirectX 10.1 FTW!

With the CDN $ @ 1.05 US, things are looking better for us Canucks.

This is the first product I've seen cheaper up here, than down there.

Actually, some would argue that the 8800GT card is retailing at mid-range prices in here in Britain.

From what I've heard, November is going to see the release of some high-end 9-series cards. I'd wait for that. If you're short on cash though, a $250 card that's almost just as good as an 8800GTX on lower screen resolutions is a must-buy.
