    Icon5 Freaking Greek Pope!

Ok i am at a total loss, this is the first time this has happened to me but i would like to know if anyone has seen it before.

I started a new campaign as Scotland and got a bit carried away and over stretched regions controlled were

    Edinburgh
    Inverness
    Dublin
    York
    Caernarvon

My elite units were off trying to get to Cairo on a crusade when Hungry took it before i got there. I turned the boat around and brought the lads home and so decided to crush my weakly defended allies the English i hit London with the crusaders and brought every spare man from up north down on Nottingham.

It totally backfired, two full stacks appeared from nowhere and beat me crusader stack to a pulp and in my haste for revenge i got excommunicated!

Taking a deep breath i quickly begged for forgiveness from the English and was told to go sit on my own pike!

With the English slowly edging up to my near empty settlements i handed over Caernarvon and York as gifts to the pope in an attempt to make a barrier between me and the English.

This is the freaking bit....both settlements turned to Byzantine!!!!!

I got the barrier i wanted but why did wales and the North east of england go purple....very odd?
There are two kinds of officers, sir: killin' officers and murderin' officers. Killin' officers are poor old buggers that get you killed by mistake.

Murderin' officers are mad, bad, old buggers that get you killed on purpose - for a country, for a religion, maybe even for a flag!

I can understand the settlements being gifted on the next round but this was instant, i even had to do an double take to check i had not acidently selected a byzantine diplomat. Very odd

OMG !!! I want this happen to me too lol! very weird, but funny and interesing! Keep the settlements to byzantines. One thing u can do is, to leave an army outside the specific cities, or to lay siege for two rounds, later to leave it and so on, waiting for their answer! go a diplomat to them, try to challenge them.

post a print screen of the map!

Ok i have never posted a picture on a forum before so i hope this works.

Hopefully you will see the current situation, i have next to no significant units left apart from my reserves travelling over from dublin. The english have two medium stacks lurking in nottingham and i am just hoping they are not bold enough to come at me.

If they do i promise not to go quietly into the night!

The Papal States wouldn't be a Byzantine vassal would they? If not its a very spectacular bug.

Inverness did rebel, as i had stripped out my units to go away on the failed crusade.

You can, if you have tweaked the resources a bit in desc_strat. I did this a while ago to overcome the long walk to timbuktu (only silver however). 'Oh thats's cheating' i hear you say...well i call it the Sharky4u.iambored withmovingmerchantsmod v 0.1. I don't know of a colony of scots in a north african sate before so setting up home down there on a scottish campaign seemed s bit ridiculous. Moving reasources is actually quite fun, i do recomend it if you have, like me, memorised the locations of every valuble resource on the campaign map. It add's real diversity to drop the gold in the alps, south wales or anywhere else ones enemies lie. I particularly liked one drop of gold around cairo. Puts a bit of spark in the step of the infidel; before the west go there.

Are you sure there wasn't a Byzantine diplomat/army near the papal guy you approached to give the regions to? If there was its possible you ended up accidentally clicking the Byzantine guy by mistake.

    I've done that before.

Don't worry though, they will more than likely rebel soon. Distance from Capital, not many troops there, different religion etc etc. But then the English will probably take the Rebel towns and you will be back to square one

This is very odd. Is this an unmodded version fo the game? Are you sure you did not give those provinces to the Byn's by mistake? It is something to definately watch. Best of luck and don't anger those Purple dudes just yet, see what they do for a few rounds.
