Curia decides that every member has only one chance to change his username, the second choice is final and will not be changed on request.

Reason: Several threads where several members have mentioned that they don't like people who change usernames for no reason. It also makes holding all sorts of indexes up to date a pain in the ass.

Yeah, we have this problem on the Wiki. I honestly do consider name changes to be disrespectful, then everyone who has you listed down on one piece of information or another has to modify it. While I don't think this bill really has a chance at success, I support.

Did you ignore the first post? Compiling information becomes all the more difficult because some people cant settle with one name. Its disrespectful really, a name is more than a name, its a means of identification.

I ignored it, because it is not a serious reason to ban name changing.

Considering its my job to compile such lists I think my opinion should be taken into account - I don't mind people changing there names (I have used three different names) and I am willing to change names in lists if the user asks me to.

There are more people who are active in compiling different information on people than just you, for example, the Wiki. Not speaking for the Wiki here, but I know its not exactly appreciated when people change their names.

Another idea would be the Curia to decide the usernames. Later, I will make a proposal to change your name back to G_M and Phoenix to tBP. Oh, and from today I want you to call me Lulu.

I can think of a damn fine one: personal pleasure.

Yes, I think it is annoying, but that's about it. We're trying to make the site a more enjoyable place for everyone, not just Curial officers/Wiki editors. It's really not that difficult to keep track of members throughout name changes; after all, they frequently keeps their sigs the same and, at worst, you can always look at their account page and find out what their previous name was.

Obviously, I don't support.

I am a librarian and updating names of authors is one of my many jobs. I don't find it a discomfort to update the names.

Wiki Oficers dont need to trawl through records changing names - I know that my Wiki entry was under the name of Elrond the entire time I was called Narses. I have already stated that I dont have a problem with changing peoples names in the list of civs so you cant use that as a reason.

I personally find ferrets54's avatar's and sigs irrating perhaps I should start a decision which recommends that moderators should remove sigs which people find annoying.

Threads like these + medal threads is what makes the curia completly irrelvant to the rest of the site.

Out of topic, but medals are rather important since they are an award for contributing members. Awards also make members to contribute more.

Actually, you're the first member I know of to express any significant discomfort over the changing of names. On the other hand, I know of several members who take great pleasure in ritually changing their usernames; Tom Paine, this site's most prolific member, being one of them.

I'm also very suspicious of any attempts by the Curia to take away a significant right of this site's entire membership. It reeks, to be quite honest. What's next, is the changing of avatars and signatures going to be prohibited for the purpose easier recognition?
