Yup.. basically, I really, really want to see something that will scare the **** out of me. I'm looking for something thats pure terror.

Can be any era, though if it's black and white, it better ACTUALLY be scary. No Psycho stuff, while one scene in that movie made me jump.. still not scary.

But I'm sick and tired of how un-scary movies are nowadays, like that hideous remake of Halloween.

    Please help!

Elevator scene was the scariest thing I'd scene since the TV scene in Ringu. I'm still nervous whenever I go into a lift.

It really depends on what your most afraid of.

For example, Kingdom of the Spiders scared the britches off of me. Granted, I saw it when I was an impressionable child.

'28 Days Later' was so well made I was thinking things were going to jump out at any moment. But you have to understand, the situation the person was in where it seemed hopeless and alone and there is seemingly nothing you can do to escape it sort of plays with my mind.

'The Shining' was spooky but not necessarily terrifying.

'Poltergiest' scared the hell out of me, I'll never look at clown dolls and tree shadows the same way again.

But as for modern films you may not have seen, well, most films these days are going back to a more psychologically brutal form of the 80's Gorefest films. So, they are more disturbing than scary.

I know many people where traumatized by 'The Ring'

Oh, and 'American Werewolf in London' had me freaked out about going into subway tunnels by myself for a while. Its amazing what the human mind can do.

Hell yeah. Backwards ringing toy telephones still freak me out. And the sequals weren't entirely gash, which is rare.

And Jenny Agutter in the buff. Can't beat that.

Hard to imagine in this cynical age but Aliens scared the hell out of me when it came out. If you can unplug your brain for just a second...

    HUDSON
    Movement! Signal's clean.

He pans the scanner. Stops. The range display reads
    out, counting down.

    HUDSON
    Range twenty meters.

    RIPLEY
    (to Vasquez)
    Seal the door.

Vasquez picks up a hand-welder and moves to comply.

    HUDSON
    Seventeen meters.

    HICKS
    Let's get these things lit.

He hands one flamethrower to RIpley and begins priming
the other himself. It lights with a muffled POP.
Ripley's lights a moment later. Sparks shower around
Vasquez as she begins welding the door. Hudson's tracker
is beeping like mad now, as fast as their hearts.

    RIPLEY
They learned. They cut the power
and avoided the guns. They must
have found another way in, something
    we missed.

    HICKS
    We didn't miss anything.

    HUDSON
    Fifteen meters.

    RIPLEY
I don't know, an acid hole in
    a duct. Something under the
    floors, not on the plans.
    I don't know!

She picks up Vasquez' scanner and aims it the same
direction as Hudson's. Twelve meters. Man, this is a big
    ****ing signal. Ten meters.

    RIPLEY
    They're right on us. Vasquez,
    how you doing?

Vasquez is heedlessly showering herself with molten metal
as she welds the door shut. Working like a demon.

    HUDSON
    Nine meters. Eight.

    RIPLEY
Can't be. That's inside the room!

    HUDSON
    It's readin' right. Look!

Ripley fiddles with her tracker, adjusting the tuning.

    HICKS
Well you're not reading it right!

    HUDSON
Six meters. Five. What the fu --

He looks at Ripley. It dawns on both of them at the same
time. She feels a cold premonitory dread as she angles
her tracker upward to the ceiling, almost overhead. The
    tone gets louder.

Hicks climbs onto a file cabinet and raises a panel of
acoustic drop-ceiling. He shines his light inside.

    HICKS' P.O.V. 151

A soul-wrenching nightmare image. Moving in the beam of
light are aliens. Lots of aliens. They are crawling
like bats, upside down, clinging to the pipes and beams
of the structural ceiling, not touching the flimsy
acoustic panels. They glisten hideously as they claw
their way forward in silence. They cover the ceiling
of the operations room. The inner sanctum is utterly
    violated.

After a while horror movies stop being scary, just cheesy.

The scene in the Exorcist 3 with the murderous old women creeping along on the hospital celling... That was a good scene in a movie I can't remember anything else about - very creepy.

Watch Cronenberg's The Fly. That had me feeling physically ill while utterly terrified at the same time.

The recent films with gore everywhere--those are just disturbing, not scary.

One very good film that was released in the past few years was the one with the house and the Japanese woman. I can't recall the name, but it had Sarah Michelle Gellar in it as well. Sometime if I think about it too much I'm still scared.

The really graphic stuff that's popular today really doesn't scare me (Saw, Hostile, High Tension), though I like that stuff the best.

I've recently watched a huge batch of Asian movies (mainly Korean and Japanese).

I'd say "One Missed Call" was pretty good. That one is actually getting an American remake which may or may not blow.

Holy **** that Alien trailer was good! Nothing gets across horror more than a phrase telling you no one will you hear scream.

Any asian horror film. How do they manage to make everything so god damn scary?! it really depends what scares you, For example, Im not afraid of Zombie horror films, but paranormal thrillers scare the hell out of me, The films that play with your mind like a cat on a ball of string.

How about the original House on Haunted Hill? That was a genuinely scary film. When it was shown in theaters, an actual glow-in-the-dark skeleton would be pulled across the screen and people would throw popcorn at it. They sure don't make movies like they used to...

Then Hollywood, in its infinite wisdom, decided to remake it. They threw in an SNL cast member and put rap music in the credits, somehow thinking that was an improvement.
