I'm a complete newbie when it comes to modding RTW. I just love that Chivalry has castles for cities. Great job guys! Any pointers on how to create my own for RTW?

well, its not overly complex once you understand how to do it, however, if you are new to modding RTW, I suggest you first start with learning how to model/texture and code (text editing) to get familiar with the basics of RTW modding. There are plenty of tutorials here at TWC and at the .ORG which can help you. Here, go to the RTW workshop or the TWC wiki... at the .ORG go to the Scriptorium (for RTW) to find the tutorials.
After that, there are unfortunately no real good tutorials for making new buildings and settlement plans for RTW (thats why you don't see many of them in mods) but I am in the process of writing one that should be done soon. So once you got your RTW basics down, you should also have a guide on how to make new cities.

Awesome! Can't wait to see what can be done with the new tutorial you're writing. Thanks for the pointers.
Very good idea!
Guess I could need a wooden keep and bailey for viking invasion mod too,
so such a tut would be nice.
If you have that tutorial out before we've released EOD II, which will be soonish, (if the beta testers get a move on), I'm definitely going to be interested in it. I just can't get to grips with modelling walls/towers.
Did I miss the tut, or you still working on it?drak10687: I am in the process of writing one that should be done soon
I really would like to learn from such a tutorial how to build cities, I need it for a Viking mod.
I even would promize you to design a Viking roundcastle if you like to convert a 3dsm file of it into a propper .cas for use in chivalryTW mod too.
Well, I'm still in the process of making it... though I have a large part of it done. Also, it is supposed to be released with a new e-publication that we're working on here at TWC, but some other articles have not yet been finished for it...

Great! Thanx for the info![]()
hey aaron, i can help with texting and maybe getting it to work in game, if you have pictures you want to use, I am pretty good with texting and EB has shown me how to do it mostly. You can use real life pictures such from wikipedia and most of them shouldnt be copyrighted, EB uses a couples pictures from wikipedia with their building cards.
hey drak, i just wondred wether u wud be interested in looking at my new designs for the castle as cities, they have several layers of wall and have different plans for city, large city and huge city, i am still producing them and they would be better if i could edit the street plans, but i dnot know how, if interested just repost on this forum and i will show u some screen shots
Sure... but how could you have several layers of wall? I mean, it would have to be "fake" walls... because the siege weapons would not be able to get to them, and I don't think the engine would even allow you to. Anyways, yeah I'm real interested in seeing what you've done.

hey drak, i have managed to get multiple layers of walls, my current 'city' has three layers and then a rather large keep. i did it by editing the descr_building battle folder and also the settlement plan.txt files. i do have screen shots but i dont know how to post them on here. also if you could tell me how to edit the 'street plans' i could make the cities even better.
Well, to edit the street plans, you need 3ds max... because it is a sort of model... though really its just a bunch of squares and rectangles.
To post screenshots, go to a site like ImageShack.us or Photobucket.com ...you can probably look some other ones up if you don't like those... personally I just always use Imageshack, cuz you don't have to sing up or anything. So just go overt here, and upload the screenshot, it will give you several links to either the whole image itself, or various ways of posting it, like thumbnails.

this is a screnshot for a donjon, and i will soon have finished the city (three layers) but im working in ptogress.
again with the street plans, i have 3ds max but how do i use it to edit them?

Could you post a bigger picture ?
Im interseted in what youre doing, id like to try out the files once youre done.
the cities i am making are based on the fact that in 1072, most of these major cities would have been pretty big so the motte is the picture you have seen, i am getting abigger version, i am now working on the donjon and the castle which i hope will be prety damn big to capture the size of the castles
http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/9300/donjonla8.png this is a link to a larger version of the image, this is the plan for the 'motte' and donjon and castle will follow, i will send files if wanted.
nice job... though I'm not sure how sieging will work. The gates of the inner walls would have to be open I guess... that will make for some hard sieges though.
For the street plans, just go into data/settlement_plans/steet_plans/ folder, and open up some of the .cas files in there... you should understand how it works just by looking at them. The only difficult part is that it will be hard to make new ones without importing all the buildings in their correct locations first so that you have a good idea of where to place the paths.
As for the settlements themselves...if you make them that big, it would be nice to have more variety in the buildings... since you have 3ds max, maybe me and you can model some more at some point.

sure, that sounds great. you might want to take a look at the big city before you make any decisions though, i wil take some up close photos when im done (should be done this time tommorow) and then you can have another look.
