    Default Dawn of the Yawn

Ok, I've had enough *slits wrists*

These Turks are killing all of my men. They are those naughty Milanese who send wave after wave of crossbow men but this time its the Turks and they got mounted archers.

I have tried every strategy imaginable but my men just fail.

I can't send my cavalry after them because the enemy will just out run them (The Turks horses must be wearing Nike's, whereas my cheap country wear Hi-tecs).

I know archer VS Archer works but thats just to darn slow . Has any one got a good fast strategy on how to beat these Turkish Mounted Archers?
Bare in mind that there is a full stack of them

Mercenary light cavalry (I like the Alans) coupled with foot archers. You need two units of light cavalry to take down the horse archer. Use the foot archers to screen your main line and take shots at the horse archers. Then use your 2 units of light cavalry to either drive the horse archers towards your archers or to simply drive them into one or the other light cavalry. Its tough because the Turks cavalry is also fairly strong in melee (especially if its the Siphas) so you have to make sure to use the 2 units of cavalry to chase and pin, if a single unit gets engaged in melee they could lose quit easily.

I didn't have much poblems with Turkish Mounted Archers (playing as Byzantian Empire). I used next tactic:

    - engage them with Byzantian cavalary while slowly moving other cavalary unit (havy cav will be the best or if unavalable some merc light cav) or some infantry unit
    - at the same time (if there are more then 4,5 of those pesky units) engage them with any unit, just to keep them occupied (losses in scatered formation are acceptable), while my cav units finish alredy engaged Turkish Mounted Archers and move on anothere turkish unit and so on...

O.K. I'm not yet through with my first M2TW campaign, and I've never met Turkish mounted archers. However, I had a lot of RTW experience, including lots of experience using and abusing eastern factions' "horse archers." This is what I would do: If your ffaction has decent knights (something comparable to the English feudal knight with stats of 14 attack + 7 charge bonus, and 17 defense, IIRC) then get yourself a half stack or so of them (10 to 12 units). If the mounted archers are tough in melee, as another poster suggested might be the case, then you might want 12 to 15 knight units.

This might seem like overkill, but I love to keep half-stacks running around the map in RTW, anyway, and also in M2TW. A half stack of heavy cav is a very versatile weapon which pays for itself quickly if used correctly. I am finding that they are even handier in M2TW than they were in RTW.

String your knights out into a long screen, and charge the battlefield boundary beyond the archer units. Keep your units in formation and keep charging until the enemy is pinned between your knights' line and the battlefield boundary. Use the pause button to continually make adjustments so that no enemy unit slips through or around your line. Then butcher 'em. Most should rout fairly quickly. If any evade your knight screen and do not rout, then reform the screen and repeat. If you do it right, you will only need to charge twice, max. You will lose a few men as the archers outrun you towards the far boundary (the first time), but your losses shouldn't be too high if you keep running and quickly force the enemy to stand and fight.

I hope that helps. It has worked wonderfully for me in RTW.

sorry, but this is off topic. Are you from the memw that Nick used to run. That was originally MEV, and that it was overtaken by gamespy and ruined, and then the site moved to somewhere else. Well about 8 months ago i lost the link to the site, the new one that nick created, and i cant find it anymore, i looked all over online. If you could please message me the site or post it here that would be great. I have been looking for it forever, i'm actually very grateful to see sum1 from the first forum i started at. By the way my sn was Gildor at mev and memw.
