    Default editing preferences to turn off cut scenes

    I am having the same crash others have experienced where during a battle when you either knock down a wall, or a king dies or some turning point happens it looks like a in game cut scene trys to pop up but then the game just crashes back to the desktop with the "unspecified error."

    I want to try and turn off the in battle cutscenes to see if that works but I cannot figure out how to. I am usuing 32bit Vista.

    I go into c:programfiles/sega/medieval II total war/medieval2preference

    I try to open it up in notepad and rather than a long stream of text all I see is : [video]
    widescreen=0
    [game]
    allusers=1

    That is it. Am I missing something? How do I access the preference file to turn off in battle cut scenes?

    Thanks

    I don't have Vista, but according to Solidgeoff, who had the same problem finding the preference file on that OS, if I understood him right, he eventually found it in the following directory:
    C:\users\username\appdata (a hidden folder)\locl\virtualstore\programfiles\sega\medieval II total war.
    GNOTHI SEAUTON (Know Thyself) - precept inscribed in the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, Greece
    MEDEN AGAN (Nothing To Excess) - another precept inscribed in the aforementioned place

    Thanks again

    After you change the file you have set it to read only or the game will set it back to default.

    So, congratulations on finding out how to tweak the file to eliminate cut-scenes.

    Could someone please explain in layman's terms how you did that? I have the same crashing problems but couldn't follow what it was you actually did. I have Windows XP. Thanks.

    Open up the Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\medieval2.preference file. Look for the [game] section. Find the line, event_cutscenes = 1, & change the 1 to a 0.

    Thanks, Harry. Hopefully all those little dots will keep moving around now.

    For XP, go the where medieval2.exe is and find the medieval2preferences.cfg file and open it with notepad and I think it says show_events 0r something, but it should be under video. Save and play.
