Default God Save The Queen? Why?

To me this athemn sounds really stupid. I mean singing about one person is not what I'd call nation pride. How many English people actually sing this song? I wouldn't sing it. I'd rather sing about grass then Berthie Ahern. Thoughts?

A lot of English sing it. The Queen represents Britain.

How many Kings in the world really do anything themselves anymore? Yet they still are there.

Its from the old days when the Monarchs actually mattered.
As a Canadian she is my queen. But I have no respect for monarchs (they don't earn their wealth or status). You'd have to pay me to say "God save the Queen".

What's an even odder question is how does it represent New Zealand? I found out recently that 'God Save The Queen' is our second national anthem. Probably the same with the rest of the Commonwealth too.

    Leave our sovereign alone.
According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.

I notice you dont give Bush the same respect, even though he is elected not born to it.

That being said I have no problem with Britains national anthem, its theirs after all.

Comparing Bush with the Queen of England is fair, after all they are both heads of state.

Far better than the Bush haters that compare him to Hitler.

Back on subject, are there really that many people in the UK that dont like the anthem? Sheesh arent there far more important issues?

Can't really speak for the rest of the country but it can be quite rousing at times whereas other times it does sound a little like a dirge.
It's best heard at an international sporting contest as the singing is led by an opera singer (usually) who sings at a different pace to the crowd and sing s the last two notes wrongly by going up the scale when it should be down. Always makes me smile.

    Yes, there are.

Why she has no special immunity in this or any other forum, or anywhere in the world as far as I am concerned.

They exist in the government that I accept, but I don't have to like them and what they have represented.

Its more the general idea that anyone is immune to criticism from anyone else.

For x amount of millions a year she should at least be up for sitting on a loosely balanced platform above a water tank while we throw melons at her.
