I've got a few ideas down for a mod which would hopefully change the way that the game is played in that I would indeavour to make the game more historically accurate in terms of gameplay on the campaign map.
In order to do this, I would implement the following things -
Encourage field battles by capping walls at stone for almost all cities, making artillery available earlier and not having it hinder armies on the campaign map if possible. Upkeep for non-levy units would also be very expensive.
Use of peasant levies for certain types of troop that would be free upkeep in settlements but very expensive outside, to symbolise the loss of labour in that settlement. I think another mod is using this system. In addition, I would make units like Longbowmen levy units to give the english one advantage, and make peasants able to deploy stakes to make them a bit more useful.
Extend the campaign slightly so battles become more pikes and powder-orientated towards the end
Introduce a basic AOR system and 'conquerable units'
Make settlements naturally have much higher public order so garrisons are not as widely needed
Introduce Kingdoms units into the grand campaign
Make leaders have far more effect. A war party will need a leader to create, as leaders will be able to recruit troops far easier and for a cheaper price. A strong leader can mean the difference between victory and defeat not just in a battle but on the campaign map.
It's only a basic mod and the general idea is to implement features that are orientated towards the campaign map rather than battle map.
Worth doing?
