issues with steam, perhaps vista...'fatal error' on startup

I've been dying to play MTWII with my new computer, but I have been unable to.

When I attempt to launch in steam, I get this:



I noticed that if I click on settings in the launcher, I also get an error:



does anyone know what could be causing this?

attempting to launch directly from the medieval directory itself still gives me the fatal error


I am using Windows Vista Home Premium

do NOT bump threads minutes after you posted! Nobody will know. Maybe trying to open with steam screwed it up. uninstall it then reinstall it,that's all the advice i can give.

Are you logged in as the administrator of the pc? I remember reading something where someone had a similair problem with vista.

But seriously,i think you should reinstall m2tw as admin and open it the normal way,or go to an XP pc and play it there.

reinstalling it does not work

I'm also logged in as the admin, it is the only user acct

You should contact Steams tech support concerning the issue,they should be able to give you some semblance of an idea as to what must be done.
