Default EB Lite - Better for low-end systems

It would be a great idea if the EB team took out several features of the original mod and released a "lite" build with only the essential. EB 0.81 was my heaviest mod, but now EB 1 takes about 5 minutes to load and slows down to a crawl even with minimal graphical settings. The Battle Map is ok, but the Campaign map truly lags at a painful rate, so isn't it better to purge some extra units, script features, etc... and do this, for the sake of EB fans without tons of RAM and processor speed?
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

maybe the performance lag comes from the scripting language being used. Is it VBS or something like that?

I have Vista, and I haven't had any problems running the game (after disabling video clips).

We can always hope (that it would be VBS or something like that). See the EBBS in EB/data/scripts/show_me for what's going on with scripting.

Maintaining two different version will be an awful lot of work. EB is so complex that changes in one file will affect another one; not to mention the balancing issues and possibly bugs that this new version will bring with it. If you want to increase performance, you should have a look at this guide: it offers several tips for improved performance.

This mod is free, they are not to be expected to make their mod to any pc specs.

Nobody forbids users to make a minimod that replaces scripting as much as possible with the hardcoded triggers and building trees (if there are any left).
It won't be as accurate and dynamic but with less scripts it should be definitely faster.

Additionally I would like to ask what precisely you mean with low-end systems? I have a pretty low-end system:

    2.13GHz processor
    512MB RAM
    Geforce 6200 FX

and the game runs fine. Only loading times annoy, but those aren't very frequent (i.e. only for starting up the game).

Some ram memory will really help you with EB.

vbs maybe isnt the rigth tech to go after with scripting. Dont know exactly whats done, but certainly, if possible, C++ programs would perform better then using vbs, at least it dont need to be interpreted every time its called, wich would be an advantage per se.

They only perform better if they are written to utilise the potential gain in speed, otherwise they can even be slower and less helpful! But yeah, generally they are quicker and can be used for more purposes.

I usually use c++ programs to integrate diferent systems, indeed they are quite eficient, and, at least in my opinion, easier to code then vb.
