Two questions regarding spearmen

Upon starting a Casse campaign with EB 1.0, two things caught my eye:

1.Gaeroas (and other spearmen that I've seen) no longer have the "Bonus fighting cavalry" line in their unit descriptions. Does this mean that spearmen are not inherently better against cavalry than other infantry?

2. Spearmen seem to generally have better attack values than swordsmen of comparable quality - Gaeroas have better attack than Boatroas, Belgae Spearmen have better attack than Belgae Swordsmen, etc. Do swordsmen have an advantage that spearmen lack?

The answer to your questions is sort of rolled into one.

We started using the 'short_spear' attribute that gives a bonus against cav in a different way than the other bonus we were using before. It also gives a penalty against infantry. So we upped their attack a bit to compensate for some of that penalty (which is in our opinion is overly harsh, spearmen having being quite effective against swordsmen historically). Units with Swords also tend to have a higher leathality than spears, espeically those with longswords.

IIRC correctly all spear units have -4 attack points against sword units to balance things out.

how much of a penalty do spearmen have against other infantry>?? how does the new bonus versus cavalry work, how is it different? Im hoping poeni citizen militia dont end up with a higher attack than caetrati..that would be weird

IIRC, spear units now have a hardcoded +4 against cavalry and -4 against infantry.
