Who can say they hate the Beatles?!!

My friends and I have a very different tastes in music, I have well realised that by now. I have Good taste and my friends... well let's just say it's different. Let me tell you some bands and musicians that I love, so you'll get an idea as to what, in my humble opinion, is Good Taste.

-Ray Charles

-Louis Armstrong
-Johnny Cash
-And above all else: The Beatles

Now, my friends prefer the likes of "The Arrogant Worms" and though the Worms have funny lyrics, I must say that the actual music and singing kind of sucks. They also like Celine Dion and Linkin Park, so there taste is definetely questionable. Today, they asked my what bands I like. Immediately I answered "The Beatles, man they were great". Here's the kicker: Right after I said this, they answered "The Beatles SUCK!" I asked why and they answered with one of the stupidest reasons I have ever heard as to why not to like certain music: "Because the Beatles are OLD!"

Honestly, first of all, who in Western Society actually says they HATE the Beatles?! Secondly, who thinks that a band's age somehow effects whether it is good or not?! I said to them that Good Music is Immortal, and my friends, who do not deserve to be named on this intellectual forum, said "No way man! Music sucks as it gets older!" Which explains why they used to listen to the Tragically Hip, but now say that band sucks as well. You know what these people are? Narrowminded! Narrowminded and a bit crazy.

I don't think I'd say "hate", but I can't say I like their stuff. The early stuff is plain old pop and the later stuff is annoying. It sounds like elevator music to me. And I find both McCartney and Lennon's voices annoying.

I have to agree, up to this point. However, I do kinda like their later work. A lot more psychedelic and deep.

But, while, I may not exactly like the Beatles' style, I don't hate it by any stretch of the imagination; and I do not deny that they were one of the greatest bands of all time. They had a massive impact on the development of rock and roll, on music in general, and on popular culture as a whole.
They were icons of an era, and there is no getting around that.

I must say you have an impressive and well rounded list there. I dont see any jazz or blues in there however. The best music and musicians around IMHO

I can understand not caring for the Beatles' music. But to say you 'Hate' it, solely because it's from the 60s is petty. Petty and immature. That's what i'm complaining about. Hating it blindly just because it's before your time.

I can totally respect their position in the fabric of modern music development, but I personally don't enjoy a great portion of their music. Anything before Revolver doesn't interest me in the slightest for a start. That's a very large part of their discography. And I have by no means a bad taste in music to be honest. My taste stretches from Jazz Fusion to Alternative Metal to Electronica to Hip-Hop and more. The Beatles just don't strike a major chord with me, since the music itself doesn't. The technological and production development on the other hand I respect completely, and a good deal of the later, more progressive work intrigues me.

Well i usually don't like all 60's music in general, so i am somewhat prejudiced against their music.

And i do listen to Oasis :hmmm:.

Well yes but a very limited version. Try some fusion or dixie land jazz for instance. Or some modern jazz. And if you like all that Im pretty sure you will like this

Well, I listen to all sorts of jazz. Ray Charles and Louis Armstrong are just my favourites.

I don't think your friends are really worth talking to, at least when it comes to music. Just ignore these juveniles.

As for the Beatles, I think they couldn't be more goddamn overrated and I like the Stones more and I like the Beach Boys and Love and a lot of other 60s bands more than them and I think John Lennon was the biggest :wub: in the world - but I at least acknowledge their influence. And I certainly do like a lot of their tracks, but they've never struck me as deserving in their place as the supposed 'greatest band of all time' title.

I think the beatles are amazing.

All my friends have terrible terrible music tastes too. But I don't criticize them much, I just listen to the good old stuff. Well one day I tell one of my friends I listen to some Jimi Hendrix, and he asks me who the hell he is. Well, I'm amazed of course. Who doesn't know Hendrix? No respect for George? I don't see how anyone could not like George

I'd hate the Beatles if their songs are all about the goodness of beating up the immigrants or something of the sort. Their music just does not appeal to me... in fact, it bothers me. But hate isn't the right word.

But on the subject of music sucking as it gets old - that's the speak of fad followers. Music all depends on your taste in it. If you start disliking a song because its old, then you don't like the song, you're just liking it as part of a fad. Or you're a mental deficient, seeing no other explanation. So your friends have to learn something. Go beat them up or something - I'm sure you'd enjoy that.
