Experience Temples Not Working?

Hi everyone.

Let me first say sorry if this has been covered already somewhere.

I'm in the middle of a vanilla campaign playing the Julii, and for some reason several of the experience temples in cities I control aren't allowing me to retrain units to a higher experience level. I currently have four +2 exp temples: One in Sparta (Greek), one in south Rome (Scippii?), and two in Spain both of which read as (Barbarian). The only one of these four temples that is currently allowing me to garrison a unit trained in another city and retrain it up in experience is the Greek one in Sparta. Did I miss some rule somewhere regarding this that's keeping these temples from working? Is this a bug that someone else has seen before?

Maybe a glitch? Maybe you need to build Roman temples?

Well the one in Sparta is the same as it was when I captured the city and it's always allowed me to move in units and train them for higher exp. It's the others that arent working. Besides, Julii can't build any + exp temples, so if I destroy the old ones, I lose the +exp bonus.

if the cities were automamaged it is possible the buildings were overwritten

Yes, most notably (for me) the Gaul temples which upgrade archer experience were used heavily by me during a Julii and also a Scipii (or was it Brutii?) campaign. I have also used captured Greek temples as a Roman faction (Brutii I believe) and as Egypt. I play Vanilla 1.5 RTW.

KarlC, to answer your question: It might be a bug, but make sure that the units you are trying to upgrade can be built in that city.

Whoa, is THAT what I've been missing? The units to be trained up in exp HAVE TO BE units that can be recruited in the town with the +exp. temple?

well if you cant build them in the first place, how are you gonna retrain them?
Im not sure but perhaps the exp bonus applies only to millies, mounted?

Thanks NobleNick. That was it. I just assumed it would allow the +exp. training in the same way you can retrain non-homogenous units up in +weapon/armor, but you're right. To get the +exp. the unit has to be recruitable in that town.

Yes, temples always help any culture. Hm... Maybe the unis you are trying to retrain already have 2 exp, but Im not sure if that would effect it anyway.

The units I'm trying to train up at the three of my four exp. temples that aren't working are at zero or one exp. I wonder if it's the frequent saving and reloading of my game that's caused an error? I've seen that happen in other PC games, just not yet in RTW.

Are you sure these temples offer experience bonuses? Some of them offer bonuses to morale instead of experience chevrons.
