Default Using the Turks strongest units.

No other faction can compete with the units they have. In the early stages of the game they aren't so great, but eventually they become unstoppable.

The Janissary Heavy Infantry along with Hashashim assassins can withstand a siege easily. I don't recommend having your Janissary Infantry on the wall though since the Hashashim can easily hold their ground. Case in point[I relocated the Turks to Rome and about 100 years later a crusade was called on Rome]:

The only down side to the Janissary's is that they are reckless. They usually end up with high casualties, but if you have a lot of them you can rotate them in/out of battle.

Not only are their infantry strong they get good heavy calvary, incredible archers/muskets, and of course the monster bombard. The cannon is a great asset to have in your conquering armies. They can take out a tower in 1 hit, and believe me they are extremely accurate. Walls usually come down in 2, and they can destroy whole units of infantry.

They also get the fun units like Nafauten[sp?] and great horse archers. I have yet to find a practical use for the Nafauten since they usually end up getting in the way on an open battlefield, but I'm sure they are good for defending a city/castle.

Yeah, all those Janissaries were living just for combat, and so they are quite reckless. Also, never go by their stats.
Also Musketeers and better Cannons with Quapukulu make the Turks quite powerful,as they were one of the "winners" of M2TWs Period.
But i never used hashashims,i used dismounted Spahis.

Janissary Heavy Infantry + Musketeers + cannons + Quapukulu(sp?) is an unstoppable army. Bombard the enemy from afar, move up the musketeers in line formation (2 ranks deep) backed by the heavy infantry and mow down the enemy. The key is getting to those units by slogging through the early years.

I am also playing the Turks and the beginning is the hardest to overcome. I created an alliance with Byzantin and Egypt to keep the peace as much as possible so I can build up my pathetic economy to be able to build some decent troops.

Within 5-6 turns the Byzatin attacked my only army that was besieging a small castle on the Baltic see (starts with Tour.... something). The first fight with the Byzantine was very close and I managed to beat them back and Byzantin in return offered a Ceasefire, which I gladly accepted.

I captured the fort and converted to a city since I know it can become a cash cow in the future.

Also captured the small castle called Antana and started rebuilding the economy.

Keeping the peace for 20-30 turns is very important, because it will take that long to develop 1 of your castles and your capitol city to be able to build some decent units to withstand the onslaught of Egypt.

Sure, enough I just barely was able to build some decent units, Spears, Horse Archers, Muftans, when 1 full stack of Egyptian army lay siege to Annan.

I must say if you know how to use the Muftans unit, they are very effective and devastating with that pot of fire they throw at the enemy.

I had 3 units of them and they single handet, destroyed the oncoming enemy, and started a mass rout of the whole egyptian army.

You need to watch out for to protect them with spear units. Also keep the Muftins unit out of skirmish mode, since they tend to run away just before they attack.

Now around turn 50 I am doing great and defeating one egyptian stack after the other.

You should start preparing for the Mongols. They will be coming in about 15-20 turns.

I got out of that whole region and gave my lands to Egypt in the beginning. I didn't want to deal with expanding west/south when eventually I'd be attacked from the East by an enemy that is numerous and devastating.

You should try them out for defensive and offensive purposes. They are excellent for defending your walls against any units since they cannot be matched. They hack threw knights/venetian heavy infantry/etc like they where nothing.

I did the same, I abandoned Mosul and Yereven to the Egyptians and created a line of fortresses and forts from Trezibond to Adana. I had a literal wall of defenses (thanks to the mountains) fully stocked with missile troops and dismounted siphas. It not only kept the Egyptians out during the beginning of the game it kept the Mongols and Timurids out as well. Then I sent wave after wave of assassins to deal with them. Ended up getting rid of both factions with only defending 2 sieges. The eastern wall, as I called it, allowed me to focus entirely on the Byzantines and economy. It was a great tactic and one I suggest for any Turkish player.

Nostalgia is a nasty beast. I know how that feels.

Please give us an update on that situation.
