The title pretty much says it all: What do you think is the coolest setting (As in: Ancient, Medieval, magic realm, WWI/WWII/WWIII [aka modern], Sci-fi, etc.) for war movies and/or video games.

It's a tough call for me: I've played both RTW and M2TW, and both have their own perks that I love, but games like COD2 and COH are awesome as well. Then of course there's COD4 and WIC, and a whole bevy of all sorts of sci fi. I'm tied, honestly. They all have their own attractions for me.

I prefer anything that is medieval or earlier, good ones are rare and exceptional. I dont care what people think of movies like Braveheart as far as disliking it for "inaccuracy" I think think its a great genre. Even though its few and far between.

Though a good modern war movie is always something I enjoy. Doesn't matter what war so long as its WWII or later. I really havn't seen any WWI movies that i've like aside from the last series of Blackadder, lol.

I like the classic Vietnam movie like Full Metal Jacket or Apocalypse Now more than anything for modern warfare

My view on historical accuracy: If it enhances the game's entertainment value, keep it. If it sucks out the fun, to hell with it.

For movies I have to say anything ancient/medieval always excites me...there's nothing better than a scene putting you smack dab in the middle of a massive blood bath filled with dismembered limbs, swinging swords, and blood drenched warriors screaming in a war-lust.

Unfortunately for me, there's not too many (there's alot but they're not as recurrent as I'd like them to be) contemporary films that center on ancient/medieval war and the older films that did ancient/medieval war just make me laugh at how cheesy they are with the violence.

For games, ancient/medieval usually only works for me when it's in the form of something like an RTS or a massive strategy game like the TW series. RPGs and first person sword swinging games are usually either mad boring, too fantasy based, or badly made IMO.

I do however love to get behind my precious BAR and shoot Germans up all day....they can keep making new and better looking, more intense WWII shooters for all I care - I'll eat them up! Forget what game critics say about there being too many WWII FPS games

    Good setting.

    Ancient World.

WW2, being a German would be a nice change of pace particularly in an FPS.

    For fantasy.

    Warhammer 40K.

I would love a WWI game.

BF`1918 was my favorite '42 mod, more so than FH.

I was just thinking that a minute ago. More along the lines of HoI2 though than FPS. There is no doubt a mod to do this already but I am still learning how to play the basic game first.

    BLASPHEMY!!!

I have never played the WWI mod Fuzzah. Is anyone still playing it online or is it dead?

On films, there have been so many WWII films that it's impossible to have seen them all. There will always be a few knocking around no one has heard of. Because there are so many then there of course will be a load of shite mixed in. Doesn't mean there aren't diamonds in the rough though eg Das Boot.

On games, I do like playing Rome TW but tbh I haven't really seen any other Ancient period games that are any good. Spartan Total Warrior was a stinking turd and so too was Rise and Fall. Prince of Peria never interested me but this upcoming, Third Crusade period, game Assassins Creed is looking good (shame they haven't made the main character Arabic as that would have been a much more realistic setting. That American accent is soooooo going to get on my tits). FPSs set in modern day tend to bore me too. I was always a Metal Gear fan but they haven't made a good game since the first Playstation One game. Their new one is looking good but I hope the storyline doesn't put me to sleep and I actually get to play the game as opposed to be told the game.

For now I shall stick with Forgotten Hope (WWII FPS), EUIII (1453-1830) and my newly acquired HoI2 (WWII).
