RS is configured to provide a very good economy in your home territories......but as you expand, you start making less and less to maintain your growing Empire. So yeah, if you never expand, you'll roll in money....but start expanding and income will become a problem. (At least, that's the plan! Other players could verify this better.) In RS2, this will be even more evident.

And i was making 100k each turn..

you try maintaining all 35 legions, plus double that number of auxiliaries, AND town militia, fort garrisons, and a decent sized navy, all the while whilst building up your provinces. see how much money you'll have then!![]()

try to hold the historical borders of the empire at its greatest extent (i.e. under Trajan), with those forces, and stop expanding for a while, just to see what it's like. :![]()

Also the difficulty you play on is a factor as well. Play a hard campaign (not very hard) for the hardest campaign difficulty.

If you are not spending to build in your settlements, then you will accumulate a lot of money. I see on some screen shots that players have about what I would expect to see, and others have a little more. I suppose it really matters HOW you play, and as Squid says, if you play Very Hard all bets are off. This mod is not made to be played that way.

My goal was to have around 10-30000 denarii available per turn....depending a lot on how far you expand. At first, you tend to gain money from your homelands, during which you build up your own cities, etc. As you expand, your cash reserves should dwindle, and income along with it, so that even with a large empire, 25-30000 per turn would be about right to maintain a sizable military. This is on Hard\Hard of Hard\Very Hard.
But, it depends a lot on how fast you expand, and whether you really build up your cities or not. If you decline to spend on building, and allow cities to hover in the 'blue\yellow', you can probably get away with piling up income.
In RS2, this will be even more difficult, because there will either be a built in 'religion\culture' system like BI, or, a culture system that will make it harder to keep 'different culture' regions happy......so you'll be forced to spend on keeping them happy.

This is a very interesting thread. In my current campaign, I captured the Italian peninsula and then waited until 180 B.C. to build further. I raised 18 Cesearan and Imperial legions, each with an accompanying auxilia legion (or 36 total). I attacked Gaul and by the time I had destroyed Gaul, my empire was broke. I can barely raise 2000 per turn. [Note: I destoryed all buildings in each province I took, as well as exteriminating the population.]
I'm playing on hard and hold 31 territories. In Italy, taxes are all set on very high. In Gaul, I have to manage the tax rate to keep the population happy. In Italy, I've maxed out my building trees. My navy is made up of six groups of four or five units each. The only way I have to raise money now is to decrease the number of legions - which Germany is, uh, doing for me.
I think if you take Sicily, Corsica and the other islands, you'll end up with a lot more money. I didn't do that and now Syracuse has them all . . . as well as most of North Africa and part of Iberia.
Syracuse . . . it's the new Carthage.

I have lots of money too, But not enough that I would want to reduce it. When you leave the homeland it will start to cost you big time, Just the way it should.

I have like 50 regions and i can't get my taxes on High because ppl always start a roit then...I only make like 30k each turn.
Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae.
that is a challenge i will take you up on. lets see how it works, hehe.

Just to add, I complained about having to much money in a previous campaign, but now playing as Rome I have gone broke. I have taken over all of Gaul and some of the German territories, but due to my mad legion training skills I have run out of money. So it is possible. Very possible.

Everytime I shut my eyes, it's always the same.
Lol, try this cheat: add_money 150 000 000 000 000
It will make you have about -354000 denarri (Yes, i tried to do that lol)
