Default Where's the winter of 167 BC ?

My game crashes everytime i press the timeglass at the summer of 167 BC. Well, actually it doesn't crash right away, only as soon as the other factions have made their moves. So when my turn comes, it crashes. I have the 1.5 version. What could cause this problem? I have already about 30 provinces so i wouldn't want to start all over again.

I have already tried everything i can think of: i uninstalled the game, manually deleted the remaining files, then installed it again with the patches. I also downloaded the latest drivers and according to http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/ the game should work fine with my computer.
In the game i moved my armies and fleets and gave up my latest settlement etc. and also stripped down the graphics to minimum.
So any ideas what i should try next?

I'm having the exact same problem, except it's another date.

I'm playing as the brutii, and just as Spain's turn ends, and mine is supposed to begin, the game crashes.

I recently updated to 1.5 and my save is from a previous patch, but I've already played 10 turns or so in the new version, so that doesn't seem a likely reason. Other than that, no mods installed or anything. And my computer can run the game no problem, performance-wise.

Also tried moving my armies around, but to no avail. Also have lots of territories, just destroyed egypt, and really don't wanna restart my campaign.

Unfortunately, the only saves I have is one right before the crash, and one from 5 hours before that.

    Any help?

Yep start game again, sorry, unless patch says its save game compatible it is very unlikely to be. There are tons of things that could make trying to continue an old campaign crash at any stage in the campaign, not necessarily just at the beginning.

Have you tried lowering the graphics?

This is not a coincidence. I too am experiencing crash to desktop after pressing the hourglass. Yep you guessed it I am also on 167 bc!
I have all the patches up to 1.5, Ive tried a complete reinstall.Ive also run diagnostics such as antivirus and cleaned up my registry. I have not done any mods at all, and yet it consistently crashes at exactly the same point every time.

Ive looked at the PC's event log for applications and it shows the crash as 'event ID 0' and says 'the descrition for Event ID (0) cannot be found'

This is really frustrating because I have played for ages and just wanted to continue. Ive looked through a lot of similar problems from other users but so far Ive not seen a solution of any kind for this problem.

PLEASE offer any help you can even if its just a bodge to help get me and others through this error.

ive found that when the game crashed on me, it was often something i did in the turn which was hanging. Try not doing anything that turn and then hit it.

tho i have to admit, usually it was something in the battlefield map.

Most of the suggested solutions seem to be saying something similar, however Ive tried many things and still not had any luck at all.

Ive tried taking every single general out of the cities but that didnt work. The saved game has already had the majority of the turn played so Im unable to back and do very much different.

This game clearly has a critical error whic is making it totally un-playable. Can anybody offer a solution, even a more complicated fix. Generally this game is excellent and I just want to be able to continue with my game.

    Thanks

Icon14 Rome crash to desktop - SOLUTION FOUND!

Ive contacted Sega support about this issue, and found them to be very helpful and prompt with their reply. This solution worked first time for me and Ive never had another problem playing since. Here's what they said:

    ------------------
First download the .txt file historic_events from the following link and save to a convenient location (My Documents / Desktop etc)
    http://support.sega-europe.com/files/rome/historic_events.txt
    (Right click to save)
    Next:
    - Right Click on the shortcut for Rome on your desktop
    - Click Properties
    - Click on "Find target" and this will open the directory for your Rome installation.
    - Open the DATA folder
    - Open the TEXT folder.
You should see a file using the same name as the file downloaded - historic_events.
    - Right click on this file
    - Select rename
    - Change the name to historic_events.old
Once done, move the downloaded file to the Rome directory.
You should now have historic_events and historic_events.old
Start the game, and end the turn.
I hope this information is of use to you.
    Best regards,

I'm having this exact issue, does anyone have a copy of the up-to-date .txt file?

    The link above is dead...

I had this issue already on another year and managed to find a post which had the details of while line to change... but all posts on this year only seem to lead to dead links

After Sega got hacked last year, don't expect those links to work. Contact Sega support yourself.

The reason you may not see the extension is that your Folder Options may be set up with 'Hide extensions for known file types' checked. Which means that you will, rarely, see the file type extension.

Personally, I always uncheck it as you can never be sure if you've added a second extension to a file which makes it not work. So, for example you may have historic_events.txt.txt.

The Folder Options (view tab) is available through the Control Panel (it's the second bottom option and not the one that has the red arrow against it).
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
