yes. i've been playing a brutii campaign on and off for two years nows in vanilla, and i have greek campaign that i've been working on for a while too.

for whatever reason, mods don't have staying power for me; i get bored before too long.

I'm not bored with it; I'm just sick of the bad-mannered players online. I play 2 other games online, and R:TW is easily the worst game when it comes to sportsmanship.

No manners, no sportsmanship, no respect for opponents. Public games are simply not fun anymore.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I can't really keep playing the mods the way I play vanilla. I lose interest in them.

EB is the new R:tw especially with the new 1.0 patch shame it has such high requirements though.

i cant run eb very well. the campaign map lags like hell. but with the previous versions of eb it ran fine. i found eb incredibly slow though. the new units, buildings, maps and landscape looks awesome though ill give u that but the ai is real let down... i constantly found myself having to attack cities which after a while gets so repetitive...

if u could have a campaign like in spqr or roma serrectum combine combined with all eb features than that would be a kick ass mod.

I play it from time to time often more than mods I liked its pace most mods go all "realistic" and it takes forever to do anything.

i think I can say that I oprefer vanilla over a modded game. basically vanilla is how the developers made it.
not saying they are bad mods, but mods often make the game too 'unbalanced' in way, eg. XGM focuses heavily on grreeks , RTR focuses heavily on 'realism' EB focuses heavily on graphics so on..

i still play but with the patchs on i hate the save feature not working but i'm playing as carthage going to remove the senate and left the other roman faction in disarray.

I still play Vanilla 1.5 RTW, though I am taking a break to test out Vanilla 1.2 M2TW.

I've played RTW ever since I bought it, and that was shortly after the release.
And I don't really need other games, M2 is fun but not that much better and kingdoms is small entertainment.

Well thats your opinion leonidas, I haven't played the BF series so no idea, what they are like.

But on bad sportmanship, it is getting worse, but it happens to most games over time, people are friendly at the start with the people who own it then if the game gets really popular more people start to buy it, increaseing the amount of trash talk, leaveing games early and bad sportsmanship.

That's what I thought too, but once I got back into Starcraft (which is almost 10 years old), that's when I realized that R:TW was a haven for poor sportsmen (and bad mannered players in general). Seriously, out of the last 30 games I played on Starcraft, I only met one individual who was remotely rude, but he was a saint compared to the majority of players found on R:TW.

It's sad that a historical game would attract so many poor sportsmen.

Alot of people still play it, ive been trying to drive people away from Medieval 2 and to get rome instead, been pretty successful so far, play with alot of them online. Although i play Med II and Rome equally i prefer Rome because of its time period. I also like the old graphics alot and my pc doesnt lag when i play (which it does on M2TW) So yeah. alot of people still play it

@ Barb_Prince: Starcraft is so much better people-wise online. I tried online in RTW and found the same thing as you.

But to the thread question, I play XGM and prefer it over vanilla by a longshot. I can't play vanilla anymore, its too easy. AI is much harder in XGM.
