    Default I'm having the least exciting battles ever

    I'm not sure if this is a known "bug" in TLR, or if this is just me, however when engaged, it appears that 5 or 6 men on each side actually fight, while all of the others (even on the front line) just stand there and look at each other. Cavalry is doing the same, charging initially, and then just stand there while a couple of men whack lazily at each other. I'm pretty sure I've read on the forum here that was a known issue, just wondering if it's been fixed yet, or coming in the next release...


    Edit: I'm also using Condottiere's latest config AI files if it makes any difference.

    That's really weird because I don't have that problem at all! I'm using the latest TLR beta and Con's latest files too. I've just had a huge fight with the Moors and it started out great, the skirmishers advanced and attacked with the ranged weapons, so I countered it with my crossbowmen, then the heavy cavalry flanked (yes, flanked!) my heavy cavalry and attacked me on both flanks. They even targetted my General. At the same time the heavy infantry charged and ran full pelt into my lines. It was structured chaos.

    Could you be referring to a little CA bug that prevents the secondary lines from attacking on occasion?

    For the first time however I am using units set to Huge, and it makes for giant battles, even though it is still early in the campaign. It's much much better. I was attacked by two armies, totalling 2,500 men. I had just over 1,000.

    What settings are you using? I have mine set to Campaign/Very Hard, Battles, Hard.

    I've noticed this on M2TW in general, mod, patch, is all irrelevant. The troops simply refuse to break ranks and engage in chaotic melee like you'd expect them to after a while. I'm not referring to whole armies, I'm referring to individual units. Especially the lesser disciplined ones, have an uncanny knack to stick together and hold the line... so you'll generally see only 5-6 on each side fighting each other, and the rest of the column, line, or mob will simply stay in formation and not bother to attempt to encircle or otherwise surround another unit like they do in RTW. As for army vs army, I'm not sure thats what the OP was referring to at all. Individual unit tactics have always been whack... and its one of the reasons I still play RTW over M2TW at times.

    I can't say this surprises me though... in every game except Warcraft3, too much emphasis has been placed in keeping troops in formation, and in WC3, too little emphasis. In addition to guard and loose/tight formation commands, I wish you could also have one that called for each member of each unit to treat itself as the 'head' of the formation and therefore attempt to engage in combat. Cavalry charges would be so much more smooth (you'd also need to tell them not to wait for the idiots who get caught up on trees and rocks), and you'd get units who actually try to surround a weaker enemy. I'm not sure how they got it to work in RTW and failed so miserably in this game, but OP, I feel your pain.

    You can always try to give them a move order a bit further ahead, or perhaps behind the unit they are fighting.
    It usually results in a more "chaotic" melee, with a larger proportion fighting.

    I don't mind seeing militia units trying to stand there and defend themselves, as I'd figure realistically a bunch of conscripted farmers dragged off to war probably wouldn't be aggressive killers on a battlefield in the first place. However this also happens with 2 units of armored swordsmen facing each other, AND with 2 units of heavy cavalry, which looks the silliest. They charge, then just stand there with only a few fighting it out even at the front, the others standing right next to the opposing units just mutually look at each other the whole time, and occasionally give a lazy attack.



    BTW, what is the latest beta of TLR and where can I get it? I'm still using v2.0 or whichever one it is that's lised in the main download link- is there a newer one?

    Also, I'm not referring to the known bug since RTW of ordering a charge, then having the first line of a unit charge while all of the others stay behind. They'll all charge and make contact just fine, except that only a handful at the front will actually do any fighting afterward. I also should note that I haven't actually seen this occuring until v2.0 of TLR, my battles in vanilla, previous TLR versions, and Deus lo Vult haven't had the same problem. TLR is my favorite mod but I've been avoiding it since 2.0 for exactly this reason, just trying to get it to work right because I really prefer it over the others!

    Hmm...sounds to me like this needs a touch of darthmod..for i assure you as any can attest that has borne witness to the darkside..the cavalry sure as Hell will ot jus stand there and the slaughter is made clear as the infantry penetrate the lines mercilessly seeking opponents to hurl to their grave...try it and see and you will never want to go back to lesser mods that involve battle ai that cannot stand to the might of Darths ai

    Is there an easy and non-stat breaking way to incorporate Darthmod battle AI into TLR?

    I played D's AI and was instantly disappointed by inaction. Gave it 34 test runs and no way does it compare to my last.

    Well you're a lot less friendly than Tornnight was, aren't you? If you don't want to help, you didn't even have to post in this thread. I'm not nay-saying anything. I'm not criticizing TLR as I've enjoyed this mod since it was first posted here, v2.0 is the only one I"ve had trouble with and am just trying to figure out how to get it working.

    I'm not using Darth at all, just TLR 2.0 and the config files that you posted in a seperate thread. I put that in my first post, was asking about Darth because someone else here mentioned it. If this is the response I'll be getting from "official" TLR modders, then I'll go find another mod to play/recommend.

    There are no "official" TLR modders appart from Torn.

    Condo seems to be able to look up his as***le often enough ( yes I am starting to get sick and tired of his arrogant comments). but at the moment he is the only one trying to get some moddifications into TLR worth checking.

    So I would like to appologise for the kind of answers people are getting in this forum from him.

    Sort yourself out man!!! chill and enjoy modding, and as a little advise, if there is a particular post you donīt like JUST IGNORE IT!!!!!!!!

    Personally, I don't see too many others going through this mod line by line fixing(as a hobby, in my spared time) this mod for your criticism. Why don't you lend your skills to this project instead of giving up brothel-hall lip service. If I have such a big ego-it's because I am actually trying to do something to fix the problem and not just complaining like a child with his hands to pocket. GET INVOLVED.

    I did not once criticize your work, you, or the TLR mod itself. All I did was ask why something didn't appear to work right in mine. This has nothing to do with you at all, I was only referencing your battle AI files because I was using them at the time, and was having the same glitch with and without them that could just as well have to do with my MTW2 installation as it does with TLR>

    check the updates as far as config_battle_ai
