    Icon8 TRAITS of MY GENERALS

I like EB 1, but ! There are some nasty issues here

I play with MACEDON on VH, it is 267 bc, I have destroyed Greek Cities, Epirot in the Mainland, I have Byzant, Sardis and Pergamum (and Rhodos)

I have 9 generals + two 'alied characters' (in Byzant and Pergamum)..
    NOW !!!
4 of my family members have level 4-6 expirience and 1 has (and this one is the prob) -is- level 8 expirience (yes, that is two yellow stripes),

Well, the prob is. because. ONLY Antigonos G has 3 Stars, and others have ---NOT A SINGLE ONE-- IS THAT A BUG!?!

With my general with leve 8 expirience - I killed Pyrros, took Byzant, Rhodos, Pergamus, Sardis, Issos and had 2 HEROIC battles -- And guess what -- HE HAS NOT ONE SINGLE STAR --- That is not fair ! Other rebell generals --not seen a battle ones-- have 4 or 8 stars with no reason at all

I mean Why? Why is EB 1 lliteraly making me nervous with such behavior ?

    Thank you for your time

command stars arent that useful apearantly, u have to look at the morale they give, tho command stars do give a big push in autoresolve, thank god that my faction leader has 6 whenever i attack.

EB gives command abilities through traits. Stars are mostly for AI commanders to compensate. Look at your traits, not your stars.

Exactly. In one of my first KH campaign with the earlier version of EB I had a Spartan general (can't remember his name right now) with whom I managed to sweep through all of Asia Minor with just a single mercenary army. Ok, I constantly hired new ones but my point is he had 4 starts and I had managed to ward off wave after wave of AS full stack armies (mostly levies of course). He had hell I do not know how many influence points, positive ancillaries and traits that gave confidence to my men. To give you an example, even my Misthophoroi Pezhetairoi stood against the AS Argyraspidai (the phalangites) and even after being torn apart and reduced to less than 50 men they held strong with my man around.

Am I wrong or you are trying to explain to me that I havent seen my generals traits? Well, yes I have, but, traits such as ...some that would give them bonusses when commanding infantry or cavarly -- traits that realy matter (besides moral bonusses) are not there ! And, generals with more stars -die harder- and that is no joke, realy, I think so...
MY POINT IS THE STATUS OF MY GENERALS IN MY EYES, we are playing RTW mod, well, in all other RTW mods and in vanilla, you can not play and win a Heroic battle without your generall to gain 1 star -- as a symbol of status and their battle abilities, not to say that Stars matter if you are on the VH field and in front of some 'hard' army,

If that is the case why do your generals have stars at all???

Anyway, If you can confirm that Stars dont matter, then pleas I say so like in some example... I dont like my efforts to drop .... or fail...through stars that look and are so nice when you have them ...

I can confirm to you--Stars do not matter in EB. Your traits like "confident troops" "uneasy troops" etc matter. Morale is more important. Other triats like "Leader of Men", "understanding of tactics/strategy" are also good to get.

Yes, thank you, still I like stars because they look very nice and for me they are a symbol of power of a great general -- star is a symbol for me and many others I think -it is since RTW came out...

    Thank you for your time

they shouldnt actually get command stars, it makes it to tempting to autores the battle, maybe the eb team could make a hotfix for u people that just says how much stars he would have had with vanilla

Offcourse, I dont know how to refer at some issues in the game - because the EB gameplay (and especialy 'the stars') are to much of a disproportion for me to compare -- AND I JUST HATE THOSE TRAIT SPAWNS of my opponents -- when I send a Spy -- I am sure the opponent has 2 stars but when he comes to me -- he has 8-9 stars... Why is that no CPU general gets traits like human player so that we could be the same to compare ?

Because the stars affect autoresolve battles, and guess how combat between AI armies is resolved ?

Against the human player in a tactical battle, AI stars don't really mean jack.

I read the above posts in amazement. I had thought that the EB team had simply embraced the moral message of The Sneetches.

the biggest problem i have with the ancillaries and some traits is the tens of bodyguard type retainers i get. I know there is a limit of like 8 or 10 ancillaries and 4 of them seem to be +1 to catching spies and avoiding assassination.
Now maybe this is in so human players don't spawn massive amounts of assassins to terrorize the AI but mostly it takes away spots from useful guys like doctors or poets or clerks who actually add meaningful influence and management to my generals

You can move ancillaries to other family members in the same settlement...

Still you get all these "personal bodyguard" "aged retainer" so easily, you usually get them on a 16 year old.

i know, but when you already have the same ancillary for about 90% of your retainers then that doesnt help alot.

I think the traits of generals are scripted. EB team, pls correct me if I am wrong.

I am playing carthaginian now, and since in history they are passive people, rather being merchants and farmers then professional soldiers. I find the family members get positive and good traits of management very easily. And tend to get less positive traits for command. I try to make it into two groups, one group of family members to manage the empire and the other group concentrate on the campaign. But still the generals are not getting strong positive traits for commanding army, but once they settle in one of the town or city with no governor to resupply the army after a long campaign. They immediately get positive management traits.

This wasn't the case when I played hayasdan before. Hayasdan get average and balanced commanding and management traits. If you leave them to be governor, they will be good governor. If they concentrate to lead army, they became good generals.

i also think its a shame i dont get "visual" stars with my generals (it would look nice ) but i like to scroll true their traits and notice i have some pretty sweet generals there.

but... when playing romans i'd like to have the marian reform in 172bc, since giving up conquering 90 provinces (cause then it gets boring) to do so, i tried to stick to the 45 provinces, etc but the problem is my generals/family members. it says they need more than 2 stars (command) so i went scrolling to my enormous family to find out a 70 year old dude had 2 stars... i was figthing large battles like hell against superior seleucid armies (who's generals pissed me of with their 5-9 stars - they lost anyway) and my generals got several command bonusses in the trait list (they were all victors, entitled to a triumph march whatever) but to get the marian reform they need minimum 3 command stars? plus i noticed when my chosen heir quickly lost his 2nd star in a small battle i autoresolved (i aint going to butcher 3 germanic levies with my legions ). so basically i'm screwed for the reforms.

does the battle difficulty btw has an effect on how much traits/stars a general gets?

Can someone help me edit scripts just to have visual effect -- along with 'no star' traits -- so when I get 'forget about stars' trait on my general 'taht isnspires all my army' -- can I get a star +

If someone can help me on this I would be very happy!
