Default Loving the new Type IV govt. !!!!

I'm really loving the changes to the type 4 govt. and now I feel like there is a very real incentive to build them now when constructing a republican empire. The client rulers (who actually are effective at ruling the semi-autonomous state) and the local generals you can now create really give the allied states a real sense of "independence" from the Senate. I now create mostly type 4 govt's in new provinces and in the province capital, build a type II or III. It also keeps me from stretching my family members too far and leaving colonies (esp. in my homeland of Italy) from going without an effective leader.

Yes, they are one of the subtle but great additions to EB 1. I nearly always build a type IV government upon conquest now, and only start Romanisation/Hellenisation/... in times of peace or when the client ruler dies.

I wonder if it is possible to tie a reduction in culture penalty to the 'client ruler' trait. After all it seems logical, as client rulers are (more are less) allowed to keep their own traditions and retain their own culture.

Personally I would also like to see far greater penalties for placing your own generals in the type IV settlements, especially when they are effectively the governor of that province.

I love the newType IV gov. I always tryed to emulate that but now we have the real deal. I love to play whith Carthage and sinceI do not think they were imperialists, they were more preocupied with comerce then with governament (as long as they could control it) I now fell free to expand all Iberia and Africa! Really great inovation!

Keep in mind too the "Allow local taxation" buttons are now changed to "Allow Local Autonomy" - they were changed to further the feel that these places are not under your control. It is suggested by many EB team members that "house rules" should include allowing the local client rulers in type4 govts to build what they want, but we don't have a way of mandating it.

Personally, I distrust the AI too much to use those. It is, after all, notoriously kinda dim.

A simple house rule for those client leaders: always build the next cheapest building, regardless of what it is. I would also suggest that you only use troops as garrison that were raised in that town.

Just for me personally, I'm with you on that. :hmmm:
I just play the settlement as though I don't have direct control, like having no super high taxes (unless necessary).

When the Puppet Rulers first came out, I'll be honest, I hated them. I hated not being able to get rid of them or move them. But once I started playing around with them on the internal versions, I started to love them. They add a great amount of roleplaying possibities, as well as free up my true family members for war or governing settlement that I actually care about.

exactly! I love the fact that I can free up family members and not have newly conquered settlements go without a ruler. I must admit, that there are some things that I must correct the AI on. There are some times when I want a particular structure out of the allied state, or diplomat. I also have to make sure they hold down on the recruitment and shipbuilding (that can drain my treasury). Regardless, it is one of the more subtle, but EXCELLENT ideas for imperial factions. Imperial expansion is now much more managable. I esp. love the recruitable generals!

Oh right, I didn't think about it since I never do so, but if you're not using the "manage all settlements" campaign option I can see where this neat thing becomes particularly handy.

Well, the AI seems to know what to build, I trusted it and now my five "allieds" are growing steadly, I also allow them to recruit whatever they want to the limit of half of city income, in this arena, the AI is not that efective, it tends to missiles so I try to force it to recruit the "proper" units by only leaving it with the necessary money to do so or by recruiting it mself

    Lots of fun

Hey I don't mean to hijack the thread or anything, but can someone just give me a quick simple explanation of how you select which government to build? Maybe its just because I'm playing Pahlava but I have yet to see anything like a type 1 or type 2 government, they're all just like in Vanilla where you just take the province and start building.

I think you need to have had reforms before building any government.
Who will you fight when all are dead?
