Both questions are hard to answer, but we're working on it.
There will be new units in the next release, but also many changes to gameplay. Won't say which changes of course - has to be a surprise
Don't know yet when we'll release. Let's use this standard phrase: "When it's done"

Are there plans to have more factions playable in the campaign?
At first I thought there must be a lot of bland rebel provinces, then I realised there were simply other factions that you can't play as, which was quite interesting.

    Some requests/wanted features:

More units. Everything currently in is great (bar a few unit cards that just show the base rebel model), but I'd like a bit more variety. Some examples:
(if I mention something that's already in, it's simply that I haven't encountered one yet)

romphaia wielding elites for the Bessoi.
A Nomad horse-archer model and mounted noble, for the Scythians etc.
Hoplites with swords, as mentioned elsewhere.
A Greek heavy cavalry unit (Thessalians/nobles).

I actually thought I'd have more suggestions, but the limited rosters work astoundingly well.
Oh yes, some celtic/barbarian mercenaries, and more mercenaries in general (I only seem to be able to recruit mercenaries that I can also train, ie I can't hire Bessoi archers when playing as Sparta..)

    Anyway, I'm eagerly awaiting updates.

Also, bit OT, could you direct me towards any sites with information on the Babylonian and early Persian empires?

We do have plans to have more factions playable, most notably Media.

Of your suggestions we have tried out hoplites with swords already, but that caused the units to become very disorderly, and charging became quite weird.
The other suggestions are being considered.. though we might need more graphics artists

Wikipedia provides quite good articles on Babylonian and Persian history, i'd look there first.

Thanks for the praise everyone, next version will be great

Read through Wiki while I was waiting for a reply, lol.

If it comes down to weird sword-hoplites / spear-hoplites as they are, stick with the spear.

I haven't realy noticed any balancing issues - unsupported skirmishers get killed if caught in the open, cavalry can cause some casualties on spearmen but get mauled badly, auto-resolved battles have yet to cause any "wtf-moments" - it's great.

Bribing might be a bit too easy so far (either that or making money is) - I should point out I've only done a Spartan campaign so far though, on easy/medium.
I've started a Babylonian campaign on med/med, and that seems similar.. (obviously Babylon's richer than Sparta, but I've never been in fear of losing money so far..)

As for Taras - AI has problems expanding overseas anyway, it took half my campaign for one of their diplomats to reach me (as Sparta..)
If it enables you to make more factions playable, I'd be fine with them either being replaced by rebels (Greeks, obviously) or just being non-playable in favour of the Scythians (for example).

I'd love to help, but sadly I know (quite literally) nothing about modding.
If you ever need any help with internet research though, just PM me (and beta-testing goes without saying, I really enjoy this mod).

I don't know if there's any 'available', but quite a few mods have 'improvement buildings', such as the sewers etc - is there any plan to add (borrow, steal, make up) some more of those?

And if it's possible, an improvement to character development would be great (though obviously this would be a side-dish, not the main meal).

Greek Rebels, that's an idea. Could both Sparta and Athens be shadowed by the same rebel Greek faction?

Yes i think phoiniki and Phoenicians should be in the campaign. They are the descendants of Carthaginians.

Please please please use the -mod feature :-)

Currently I have in my Computer:

    Rome
    Barbarian Invasion
    Alexander
    Extended Greek Mod
    Napoleon Total War

All use the -mod command, and I think that many other gamers are like me and have multiple mods and don't want to uninstall-reinstall every single time.

Thanks again for making one of the most AWESOME mods ever- I had such a hankering to play an earlier "ancient" army period while still being historical, and you guys NAILED it

Just make multiple copies of the unmodded RTW folder, Reloader. You can have as many as you want, and that way you don't have to install/uninstall.

It seems all mods which have Hoplites have the same problem. Europa Barbarorum are one of them. But it seems they have found a solution ! Check out the post #12 in this thread ! You might want to talk to them about it

Good luck mate ,We all are waiting for the next RoP great release

Actually, he only stated that it was possible to use overhand + secondary weapon, not the manner in which it could be achieved.
