The most basic advice is to make sure that nothing else is running while you play. For instance, even though seeding EB is nice, A BitTorrent engine can have noticable effects on the game speed. Turn every other program you can off.
There is a link in the FAQ to a guide that helps cut out some stuff like unnecessary Windows programs.
We advise 1-2 Gb RAM.
Turn down graphics settings (especially things like shadows and glints/reflections).
I would definately advise against something like turning off the script. Without the script, EB is basically broken. It won't even work as well as vanilla would.
