I have been playing for 3 years RTW and sometimes I am really bored because of the same reason.AI really sucks.Some factions always expand so much(ROMANS,EGYPTIANS,BRITONS) others disappear.And it happens all the time.It drives me crazy.Whatever faction I chose to play again the same.I played several mods-same situation.So I would ask people for more saved games when they are in tough situations or when the situation on the world map is little unusual.So many people who play RTW too little saved games.CHANGE IT!

Why don't you make your own challenges (and why the hell are you using all caps in your title?)? Download the Hotseat mod by Myrrdraal, and start as one faction. Once it gets so easy that there is no challenge whatsoever, use the script to change factions, then stop using the script. For example, let's say you take twenty cities as the Brutii and have an alliance with Egypt. Greeks have nearly nothing left... Only one city, Pergamum. Then, you use the script to change to them. Then you have powerful enemies (including your former empire) on both sides. Once you get bored again, switch to another faction that you've nearly destroyed.

Or use limitations on yourself. There are many people who do that.
Limit yourself in conquest, unit training, or fund an allied country so that you have a huge enemy.

Or you could edit descr_strat and make one faction extremely weak and then play a campaign as that faction.

Use house rules. Alternatively, don't expand for fifty years, then all the surviving nations will be larger, and more of a challenge for your fledgling nation.

If that doesn't appeal to you, play the Seleucid Empire. Big challenge at the start, plus, if you want other factions to expand, take Egypt and than let all of your cities but some of your Southern ones rebel. That will allow Armenia and Parthia to expand, plus gives you a harder challenge when you try to take on those larger nations, or let them be and go for Africa and Carthage.

Yes, if you want a challenge at the start, I suggest TSE. hmm, let's see, they face potential enemies, armenia, pontus, parthi, greeks and the montrously overpowered egypteians. when I say potential enemies, I mean most of them will attack you within 5 years.
if you survive, the rest of the game, I will admit is terribly easy, the eastern mediterranean contins some o f the richest lands and you wil field stacks upon stacks of silver shield pikemen/legionnaires, catasphracts/companions, .

so far, oter then armenia and germania, TSE i s the only faction that gets BOTH legionnaires and high quality pikemen. did I mention you get elephants too?


also play with house rules, for example, I only ever occupy, I never enslave or extermin. also, I never build phalanx pikemen as the TSE. I never open hostilities upon oter factions, I only attack them if they decalre war on me.

so try a TSE campaghn (short) and on vh/vh , also Im not sure exactly what the darthmod does, but I have a feeling it improves AI or something like that.. p

I played as Seleucids on vh/vh several times and I think that they have the most powerfull army in the late game.When they are able to recruit cataphracts and elephants everyone is doomed even ROMANS.Early in the game they are in tough position but when Egypt is gone no-one can stop them.Once I have waited for thirty years and I was conquering only rebel settlements.Other factions were at war with me-I DEFEND MYSELF and then boom-GONE IN THE WIND every Asian faction in 13 years.Once I ABANDONED all my settlements and went Macedonia went to Asia,another time with Scipii I went to Egypt giving my original settlements to SPQR and Greeks.HOTSEAT is a great idea.Now I am playing with Julii on vh/vh without saving the game as I played fist time when I bought this game.

Hm... what is this hotseat you speak of? Is it accessible to relative modding newbs? And most of all, is it compatible with Darthmod and/or Mundus Magnus?

- Hotseat mod is a small mod that allows you to play multiplayer or switch factions.
- You can find it here: http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=64876
- It can be a little confusing at first, since it doesn't come with an installer, but I can explain anything that you don't understand.
- It should be compatible with any mod, but I haven't tried it.

Rasui I have a question. If i were to play a Multiplayer campaign during the instalation of the mod would I put just my faction or my faction as well as the other players factions?

Hotseat is a great thing.You can use it with your old saved games.So if you started campaign with one faction you can control whatever faction you want after using hotseat.The only problem with hotseat is when you won battle on battlefield you can`t kill routing enemies because the battle ends when you rout all your enemies without option to continue killing routing enemies.I'm using HOTSEAT by Myrddaal.

All of the factions for everyone playing the campaign, and they have to go in this order:

romans_julii
romans_brutii

pontus

armenia
dacia
greek_cities
numidia
scythia
spain
thrace
slave

So if you were playing as Germans and Carthage, you put would it as:

carthage
germans

in the same order, and the exact spelling.
