Well I did and tried what you guys said but it didn't seem to show me my error. Also RTR doesn't still work!

Anything else I can do. (I deleted New-Edit)

Heya Mr. Hide

As you may/may not know, we at the TGP (Globus Project) have adopted your excellent program to help us in our goals. You might have answered a similar problem to this before, but I can't be bothered reading through 193 replies to see if you have. Sorry!

Anyway - the problem I'm getting is that when I try to play/test my map edits (only province changes, and provinces added only with your program and not manually) it crashes back to the campaign selection screen. I've placed the CMEDit program in the base folder of RTW, and I don't think I've placed any cities or ports on terrain that might cause it to crash (ie rivers, mountains). Basically I can't see what I'm doing wrong.

I also noticed that your program doesn't add new provinces in the mercenary.txt file or the settlement_and_region_names.txt file in the data/text folder, so I added them in manually (without error, as far as I know). Surely this couldn't be the problem?

Anyway, Mr Hide, any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and it's very disheartening! If there's any details I've omitted that you'd need to know in order to help me, just ask.

Many thanks.

Hi Praetorian Sejanus!

Sorry for the late answer, I didn't get to it yesterday.
Because of that problem: It's always difficult to say what the error is when you don't see it actually on your PC
I would be faster in locating the problem if I had your campaign to test. It would also help me to remove such bugs the editor may have. Could you send the campaign to me?
As you all from the project have to cope with the errors of the editor and as a return () I could give you the latest version of the editor. (Check your PMs)

Normally the settlement_and_region_names.txt should be modified by the editor. The mercenary.txt file I haven't included yet.

@ErikinWest
You added -show_err in the target field of the shortcut? Normally when you start the game with it, choose the campaign, try it to start, then exit from the program it shows the error. But do not forget to delete the rwm file before. It's hard to say what's wrong without the error message.

Hope I could help.
Greetings
MrHide

The program won't even work for me, it says select a campaign directory and every time I do, it just pops up a ton of error messages. I feel like a total idiot, but what the heck am I doing wrong?

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

You need to create a new folder say for example "New campaign" and then copy all the files from the base and Imperial files into that folder. Then open that folder up with the map editor and it should work fine.

Just remember to remove the .rmw before you load up RTW, otherwise it will just crash to desktop. Your new map should be under "provincial campaign" now

Update:
I'm making good progress in adding new features. The last days I worked on the engine to make it more beautiful. I think I made it (See pics)
Terrain has now a much more smoother look and you can create smooth hills with the brush. I added also the map features overlay with rivers. The river course is not straight but is dynamically created each startup. They never look the same.
I also added a faction browser which shows every bit of info the descr_strat.txt file contains (factions, regions, characters, relatives, etc)

I'm currently working on editing the characters. You can see some of them already on the images.

MrHide cool...it is me or the units (armies) are very very small ?!

How about inserting a square line sistem like a chess table ? to be able to see the x and y coordonates....This new editor will enable the addition of a new army on the map for example ?

About coding & adding new armies .... check out this file at the rebels (slave) section. It may help you in the future to see how the codeing is done.

Mr. Hide, I think that faction ownership in descr_strat.txt and culture tag in descr_regions.txt need to be two different entries. When the 'slave' tag is placed in descr_regions.txt, I eventually start getting ctd's. I changed the tags back to originals and ctd's stopped. Could be just my mod, but ,for whatever reason, I don't think the slave tag works for anything exept faction ownership.

tag for slave ..?!?! be more specific...what exactly is makeing ctd's...the adding of armies characthers and generals is different for the slave (txt code) look in the up attachement.

For example: Tribus_Saxones
Bordesholm
slave
Saxones
232 41 55
timber, amber, dogs, pigs
5
3
The 'slave' entry there, should be 'germans'. And yes, I noticed the slave entries in the the appropriate txt files, nevertheless, for my mod, which does not touch those files or anything outside the campaign folder, the slave entry in descr_regions.txt does not work and is not used in the original vanilla file.

Hope this helps as I think it will cause ctd's in any mod using the editor at this point. They do not happen immediately. The ctd's occur AFTER a faction conquers a rebel province and the AI generates a new stack of rebels in that province. I think the engine refers to the original culture tag to generate that new rebel stack and for some reason is not coded to use the slave entry to do this. Thus the problem is not evident until the faction you are playing conquers a rebel province and the AI generates a new rebel stack there. For my mod I fixed this here:new province fix and sticky ship fix

Thanks for the info, linedog! Interesting things that this causes a CTD. I wouldn't have tested it that much, maybe an extra dropdown list for the culture tag will help. I added the info to the first post

Burebista, yes, you will able to manage and add armies also. A grid may be a good idea.

This is an awesome program. Thanks a lot MrHide. While playing with the tool, I noticed that the new cities cannot build any new buildings if the year founded field is set > 0 and the starting level has to be at least town....

just a note so that newbies don't have to figure this out the hard way.

hmmm, I'm having a strange problem with the editor. I can run it fine, I did all the necessary and I get it to work fine however when it comes to adding new cities and ports to a newly created region, the editor will not allow me, I click on add new city , my editor only display the new province tool (the brush that allows you to create new boundaries) and thus I can't create any new cities or ports and by extension provinces. A screenie of my problem is below:

Any help in this would be greatly appreciated, it's probably something so n00bish that will embarrase me greatly

(I know in that screene, that the city in my new province is from the former province, but because of my inability to edit cities and ports I can't change it)

Hi Londinium, you'll need to first add settlement, then disable draw mode, and click on add city or add port.

Thanks your for help. I had added a settlement, yet hadn't disabled draw mode, thats what I was doing wrong. Many thanks

So, i am having just about the same exact problem as ErikWest was having. Everything works perfectly fine in the map editor, but when it gets to loading the campaign, it fries after the Faction selection screen. -Show_err proved completely useless saddly, nothing showed. No idea whats wrong.

I got the cities and ports added after my previous n00bish error and then tried to run my campaign. Now I get the error message:

error in data/world/maps/campaign/The_Crusades/descr_regions.txt
line 1044, column 1
Couldn't find region name "Crusader" in stringable"
So I looked at this file and this is what I got,

Crusader Kingdom Of Antioch
Antioch
seleucid
Syrians
102 2 128
iron, wine, textiles, silk, elephants, camels
10
10

what have I been missing out on the editor to cause this problem ? Sorry about all the n00bish questions, I'm just trying to get to grips with map editting. Thanks in advance for any further help
