    Default Colonization ?

first of all, let me explain that this is the first time I post to this forum and for me certainly the most expected Mod is Hegemonia. (please excuse my englisch as I am not a native speaker)

    My question / idea:

I have seen in another Mod (4th AGE) settlers as a unit
they have no martial values however you can create a full list in a single turn
so you get 8-10 times 120 settleres in a single round.
(They cost enough so the AI does not recruit them as cheap troops, the cost could reflect the material that is also given to the colonies)

Shipping them to a small town on a far away shore would give you there a population boost (and maybe a culture change) and reduces the social pressure back at home.

Exactly what the greek citys (with the exception of Sparta) did in the early years of the classicla greek time.

I am not sure if this was still done to that extend in the time period your Mod will cover, however I think it would be a nice idea to simulate the greek colonizations of the mediteranean shores.

If u want to recruit 9 units for 1 turn u have just to modify the export_descr_unit, the stat_cost 0 ( the normal is 1, 2 or sometimes 3 like spartan holpites for example ). Im not sure about the cost, but i think u can modify that to. My opinion is that the game will became unrealistic if u recruit 9 units for a single turn ( like Rome Surrectum ), so 1 turn is better i think. For the other things wait the answers of the modderators, they will explain u everything. Have a nice day.....

Nikron... He is referring to only one specific unit being able to be recruited 9 a turn. A settler unit which would be like a peasant but with no martial value.

To represent the colonization of a recently conquered town, to build its population and make the cultural change less harsh.

    Good idea.

Let me repeat. He is not talking about building full stacks of spartans/etc.

Marco_Polo, that is a wonderful idea to represent the Greek colonization around the Mediterranean. Very original.

    @ Marco_Polo

I like your idea too... its a fancy solution for boosting the population of a colony...

But in Vanilla I used to boost the population of a "weak" city by sending and disbanding a full stack army of weak but numerous troops which I had raised in an overcrowded city or from several ones.

So more or less the only argument for your idea is the saving of time... as far as I see it.

Why shouldnīt they have any martial value? Werenīt hoplites common people? Maybe colonists should have very low values but at least have some...

I donīt know if it is possible to reflect the high price of a (settler) unit in anything else but martial values (as you mentioned i.e. material for the colonies), but if it is it would give your idea more power of course...

Anyway... it would be a fancy solution...

But others, a few, are like stars, they go on a fixed course, no wind reaches them, in themselves they have their law and their course."
