Okay, I was just recently playing as the Bactrians and I noticed... There are THREE Alexandrias in Asia.

One in Egypt, one in Bactria, and one in Seleucia... Wtf? Oh and theres an Alexandria Herat in Bactria.

Kind of odd, people wouldnt know what Alexandria your talking about. =P

There are 3 settlements with that name afaik. Their internal name is different though. If you find that confusing go to:
Rome - Total War/data/text
open the file imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names and do a search for Alexandria. Change the name outside the brackets only. You can use the name in brackets as inspiration for the name, but do not edit that too. The one outside the brackets is purely cosmetic, but the one inside is used by the game`s engine.
To be sure, make a backup before you edit it so you can revert the change if needed.

Well, Alexander was kinda an egocentric person. He gave the name of Alexandria to nearly every conquered or built city. All in all there was around 32 Alexandrias and one city named after his horse - Bucefalia(sp?)

Enjoy it that you have only 3 not 32 Alexandrias!

LOL, He liked being noticed eh? I usually see the main Alexandria in RTRPE as the Egyptian one.

It actually was the main Alexandria. It was a city built by Alexanders plan and as a representation of his glory.

It was very unpractical to call all cities Alexandria so old names were used in addition to Alexandria. Later on the old names came back to the full use.

As others have mentioned, its historical, thanks to Alexander's habit of city building. At one time, I thought about editing the UI text that the player sees in-game to show the full name as used by the game engine (as mentioned by Florin, each is unique for the 3 "Alexandria's", but decided on leaving it like the RTR Gold developers did.

As Florin mentions, you can edit what the city name is via the file he mentions.
