Default Machine too slow for 1.9

Downloaded 1.9 no problems, but its so slow, especially after each battle. It's taking up to half an hour to return me to the battle map.

My PC isn't the newest and I'm wondering if its best to upgrade. The big problem is that my PC knowledge is negligible, and I require advice about what I would need to upgrade to enjoy RTR Platinum again.

    Advice required!

Delete anything off your harddrive that you dont need/want anymore. Like old games, old programs, etc. Once you take all those off, and restart your computer, it SHOULD work.

Not saying it will. Different computers have different problems. Oh and deleting old things isnt just deleting the icon on the desktop screen, go to Control Panel - Add And remove programs - and delete them from there. =) Hope it works.

    * turn off msn, skype, quicktime icon, all the stuff you don't need while playing.
    * update your graphic drivers. (makes a huge difference) download them from the site directly, the in-windows update rarely gets the latest drivers.
    * in the game itself, lower the resolution, turn off grass for battles, and if necessary also unit detail. lower the amount of soldiers per unit in your preferences file ...
    * leave on the fog of war

Another good idea is to defragment your hard drive and/or hard drive, your "C:\" drive and whatever drive that RTR Platinum is installed on. After a while, the file structure on your drives gets fairly fragmented, with pieces of each file scattered all over the hard drive, making it take much longer for the computer to find each portion of a file. It can be good to defragment your hard drives every month or more frequently if you do a lot of installing and uninstalling programs and other big software loads.

Here is a very good post with info concerning speeding up your PC's performance... Good Playing Practices

The posted info applies well to any mod or any other programs performance, along with general performance of your PC overall.
