    Default Milkshape - worth buying?

    Hello

I don't really know anything about modelling but thought it could be fun to try. Apparently, Milkshape is only $25, which really isn't a big deal. I know there's a trial version out there, but if you wanted to get something serious done, you'd need more than 30 days to work with it. Who here has it and how'd you get it? What's the best method of buying it? Did anyone try sending them physical money in a physical letter to buy it? Did it work?

Whether it's worth buying or not depends on how much modding you intend to do

... right... ok, what I really wanted to know was - did anyone here buy it and if so, how did you go about doing it?

Nodding smilies are done by typing "yes" in colons.

Ok. Hehe... well, I'll try the trial and then we'll see. It's pretty sweet it's so cheap, but the website looks pretty shabby.

The website may look shabby...but can't argue with the results Milkshape gets! Just ask Alletun or AlphaDelta!

I've seen Alletun's work. It's really very impressive (not that I'd be able to make anything like it using the same tools). Shabby looking websites just make me feel there's something suspicious about them... haha

It's probably shabby cause they charge ''25'' doughnuts for their product, the Autodesk (3d max) site is very slick...

Probably, but you'd think if someone can make a 3d modelling tool, they'd know more about graphics and design than whoever made the website.

As a matter of fact, it´s more mathematical than graphical (vector geometry and all that), so...
Anyways, maybe a word of caution, even thoughMilkshape is cheap as tools go, it´s by no means easy to use (and neither is 3ds Max, despite being more expensive by a large margin), it requires a lot of practise to use properly.

    Beiss
At half the price of a game just go for it. I'll probably buy a couple of copies over the next week as my 30 day trial is about out... although I never used it that much as I was fiddling with 3DS Max as a trial version at the same time (mostly because I wanted to do some strat map things with cas files). Now that the free periods almost up I'll almost certainly buy Milkshape.

Why buy more than one copy? Just curious.

Definitely buy it. For a beginner it's actually easier to use
because everything is laid out on the four tabs. No hunting
for anything. Also, the more people who send Mete Ciragin,
the creator, the money, the longer he keeps upgrading and making
it better. The next generation of games will probably have more
things in them; we need somebody making this type of software
who listens to modellers, and Mete does, and can add more capabilities.

That said, there is also Gmax, which is free. This is essentially
3ds Max release 4 with a lot of useful things turned OFF, just to
annoy you into buying the real 3ds Max.

As KnightErrant said, Milkshape is designed to be easy to use. I find it much easier to use, in fact, than Gmax. And with the wonderful utilities KnightErrant and GrumpyOldMan have created to help with using Milkshape for Total War files, it is that much easier to use.
