    Default Fighting hordes

    When being WRE, how to fight them in field? Rome, being so infantry based nation, fares poorly against massed HA armies of the hordes...

    Use artillery and archers

    You need a lot of archers, lots and lots. You get picked apart without them (in field battles). However, the best strategy is still just to let the horde nation siege a well defended city and kill them in the center.

    Or you could hire mercs. (IE steepe calvary, samartians, etc)

    Have archers + horse archers + artillery + heavy cavarly and then you should be able to take on them

    Nah the best method is posting an elite army on bridges and wait for them to come to you. i defeated 5 horde armies with my one elite amy due to them not being able to utilise there HA. In each battle losing not much more than a few hundred and killing thousands of them (on huge)

    Western and Eastern Rome both have the advantage of river borders. Don't expand past them and keep your best units on them

    Autoresolving Comistatenses are great when autoresolving.

    Bridges and city defences are also effective.

    Like many people have said before, place an army on bridges or in narrow mountain passes. Then when you fight the battle, line up your units on the bridge and activate guard mode.

    ive tried attacking the horde in the front and the back, using reinforcements. bottling them up works well.

    I did pretty well against the Slavic hordes by defending against them in a city square. With about 200 cavalry I just mopped up their units one by one as they entered the square. Killed about 3000, lost 400.
