    Default Unspecified Error

Can any of you help me?

I bought Medieval II and eveytime I reach the papal election it crashes and says there has been an unspecified error or something like that, everything is fine until that point, its frustrating and annoying.

    Please help...

I suppose you're playing with an un-modded game. Am I right?
If so, maybe re-installing the game into a new, clean folder will help. If it is a modded game, your mod could very well be installed wrong; in that case, uninstalling (or, if it is one without an installer, deleting) the mod, cleaning its directory (perhaps you can retain your saved games) and installing it again could solve the problem.

It's the clean game, reinstalling doesn't do anything and even after reformatting (I did it for some other reason) it still wouldn't work so I assume the install file is broken.

Hmmmmmm... Yes, it is more than probable that your system has nothing to do with the problem. But it seems weird that a wrong disc would manifest in the pope-video... Anyway, anything can happen, you should try installing it on an other computer.

That's going to solve it from crashing during the campaign map?

EDIT: Where did that post go on how to do it?

I´ve the same problem. Everything works, but when a battle is loading, the game crashes with the same error.
Do you have the same problem with other mods? I do....

    guys

    when you installed patch 1.2

did you had any problem like got stuck when installing DATA 0 and DATA 1 ?

if you had that problem your solution is to reinstall med2tw and kingdoms then install all over again

after install med2tw vanilla install patch 1.1 then when you install patch 1.2
it will got stuck again BUT WAIT

patch 1.2 takes alot of time to install it takes for about 20/30 minutes to install DATA 1 and DATA 0

that's why it takes soo long and even if you can play even when you press close window some files from those DATA files are non existing and this will make game crash

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND I MADE WHAT I TOLD YOU AND IT'S WORKING PERFECTLY

Unspecified errors are an inevitable byproduct of M2TW and are bound to pop up at some point in your game. I think it's CA's way of saying "Go **** yourself, we don't give a **** you spend good money on us".

Not much is certain during your lifetime, but there are three things you _can_ be certain of:

    - You'll die, sooner or later
    - You'll have to pay taxes
    - You'll get unspecified errors when playing M2TW

That last one, of course, only applies to people who are lucky enough to get it installed in the first place.

I never had install problems myself, but there are loads of people who did.

The infamous unspecified error is no stranger to me. Reinstalling M2TW did not help a bit. I just installed it yesterday again, after getting rid of Vista (nVidia drivers for Vista x64 still suck big time). It works fine now on XP x64, though I wonder how long takes for my luck to run out...

Maybe that's your solution to. Just reinstall your computer with a fresh copy of Windows.

Already tried reformatting, it crashes at cutscenes where it shows spies attacking and papal elections, etc.

When it crashes during cutscenes, it's prob. a codec problem. Anyhow, you can disable the cutscenes in the medieval2.preference.cfg file. Go to line 37 (event_cutscenes = 1) and change the value to 0.

Would those fall under the category of cutscenes though? Those little movies that involve like spies, the pope, etc they come down on the messages on the left side of the screen. Know what I am talking about?

No, not really, the cutscenes are rather the battle videos like gate is open etc., and not the strat-map event-videos, but there is a 'button' in preferences for both things seperate, don't know now, but this is sure like the amen in the church, where i never am .
Check it out, but copy former to your changes the preferences file.

Btw., are you sure the system specs are okay for the game: drivers, dx, etc. etc. ... it must be a graphic "power" problem, that's clear, while, it can also be an incompatible res setting or whatever related to graphics.

Unspecified errors are though known also for me (not while video's, rather end_turn), as the former poster described so nice and true, the game seems to be not stable for anybody ... i believe i know nobody who plays any CA game without any ctd-issues and as modder you have always to seek the source to fix it, what is very annoying and timeconsuming

My game cannot even start- it shows the first screen, then shrinks and the unspecified error messege shows up. I would kind of like to play my game. Has it been confirmed that using another comp helps?

Not for sure, but trying to run an application on an other computer lets you see if the problem is with your system or the software.

It seems that ATI Catalyst drivers 7.8, 7.9 and 7.10 may cause problems (especially 7.10) I had ATI driver 7.10 installed and suddenly MT2 didn't even start. Just got the famous error "unspecified error and will now exit".

Uninstalled driver 7.10 +used drivercleaner to get rid of any crap files, then installed ATI Catalyst 7.7 Drivers and now everything works!

Hope this can be of any help.. :hmmm:
