    Default how to stay chivalrious?

simple query, how to get chivalry points?

i keep taxes as high as the people are happy
    i release prisoners
    i occupy towns

is there any other way? it seems impossible to raise it to 10 as easily as it is to raise dread. every single battle i have, including where i dont even fight with my general, i get *winning first* trait which just keeps building up and cancelling all of my chivalrious actions. it has the same chance to be dread as it does chivalry for the very same trigger, but ive never seen chivalry.

    what do you do?

    Hi Ripper,

So, to increase your chivalry you basicly need to be a fair ruler.

    Try to;
    > Keep taxes low
    > Build buildings that affect the populations happiness
    > Release Prisoners
    > At the end of a battle, when it asks you to continue or end, choose end - very important
    > Also to increase chivalry you could transfer retinues that increase it from other generals. E.g. Chivalrous Knight

    Hope this helps

To avoid the "winning first" trait, try to make you battles evenly matched The bar that shows the strength of your forces vs. thiers should be about even.

I used to get "winning first" all the time, but now when I keep it close to even I have not had that trait pop up once.

I guess it is to show that chivalry was about being honorable- not smart

Well said, I wouldn't sacrifice the chance of winning a battle for a few percentage higher on public order

quick question: how do you move over items and such from one character to another? never really got around to it, but always heard it was possible..

First, place two generals/agents on the same tile. Next, open the character info scroll then click and drag the retinue/item portrait wish to transfer to the portrait of the other character. That's it.

A note though. Only a few retinues are transferable unlike RTW.

Does "low" or "normal" taxes actually drive the ChivalrousRuler line? Or is it just keeping your happiness level in the green.

Also, do the number of kills your general gets in battle affect chivalry? i.e. if you have even odds and your general kills 50% of the army before it routs, and he does not pursue, does that drive BattleDread at all? I usually don't use my general except for a select charge in fear of getting dread traits, but since gleaning some trait trigger info, it seems like the number of kills actually does nothing to drive BattleDread...

afaik, also from my experience, if you fight with your general himself, usually alone with no or almost no bodyguards, and he kills a lot of units and gets hit many times, he gets the 'mad' trait.

then you just can hear the lovely speeches ;]

The 99 % of my generals end being the Master of the Dreadfuls hehe, only one (in medieval II) ended being the saint of the knights. Grim the Saint, with the danish, he beginned with 5 or 6, and after winning a big battle vs rebels he ended with 8 or 10.

And also there is two dirty tricks. In medieval, if there is a crusade active, make him a member of the crusade, click the button of go out of the crusade and return to unite him to the crusade and repeat the same operation all the time. In kingdoms, if your general can make night battles, attack somebody, select night battles, deselect, reselect, deselect, etc, and that will count as fighted battles and your chivalry will go up.

Don't bother in the Crusades campaign. You'll get a 10+ chivary general and the egyptions will assassinate him with a 1 level spy with a 1% chance.
According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.

Don't use assassins, it lover down chivalry. Also building an important religious buildings and economic staff will bring him also chivalry, high military buildings will bring him a command stars if he has a predispositions of a commander...
Take your spears and swords, arrows of bravery. And like your ancestors, fly to the defence of your Serbian homeland...

how about city/castle assaults. I always end up killing all the defenders and it causes my generals to gain dread traits. Any solutions?

Just try to occupy the city without pillage and massacre. If you have by any chance after the battle to release the prisoners... Don't know anything else!

It doesn't really matter how many enemies your general kills. The triggers for both traits simply use >6 as a check to make sure the general killed more than 6 enemies. If a character starts out with one level in the dread/chivalry trait, he will stick with that one (forever). Your first battle should therefore be more or less an equal match or against an opposing religion (not catholic vs orthodox) to get the chivalrous trait.
Continuing a battle after you won doesn't matter at all. You will capture the enemies instead of killing them.
