    Icon4 Republican Primary Thread

OK, so will all the republicans/conservatives/Would-be-republicans-except-I-live-somewhere-else vote for a main candidate for the party.

It's simple, and this time (last time I f'ed up) I have included ALL the candidates... who stand a chance.

Also, I would like it if TWC could reach a consensus on which candidate TWC should sponsor for the Republican Party. What that means is we all actually put aside our differences and decide which candidate gets the party's candidate position, which means an end to "OMG MY CANDIDATE IS BETTUR" "NO MINE!!1".

Rudy of course. I love candidates who receive rewards for attempting to limit free speech. One of the other reason why I like him is that he doesnt criticize the police even when they shoot kids. Do children accidently being shot have anything to do with the mayor? No! Plus, whatever the police do is right. The greatest reason why I like him is that he has pissed off those 9/11 victims families. It wasnt his job to take safety precautions for NYC or treat victims familes well. No he is too good for that. However, I do agree with him that cheating on spouses is ethically correct. Isnt America about freedom to cheat on whoever you want and never have to feel bad about it?

Why even do these polls on the internet? The Ron Paul groupies come out and vote for him, no one else gets any real debate/discussion during the rp circle jerk aside from how not like rp they are.

I can't wait till the voting starts so these people die off when the 2% returns start coming in.

We had a college republicans meeting and poll and Newt won it in a landslide with Fred, Mitt, and Rudy tied for second with 15% each. Ron Paul didn't get a single vote.

We've a wonderful little college close to where I live. It's called Eureka College, and is the alma mater of President Ronald Reagan. It's listed on the US News & World Report of America's Best Colleges - 2008.

About 72% of the student body at Eureka is College Republican, and Paul got about 5 votes in their "straw poll". Most of the votes were split between Thompson and Giuliani, with the rest fairly evenly divided between McCain, Romney, and Huckabee.

If you're ever near Eureka, Illinois, drop in to the school. They have a wonderful Reagan museum filled with memorabilia, and a Memorial to him, complete with a large part of the Berlin Wall.

Kansas State, let me get you the numbers

Our Results for the Straw Poll are as follows
    For President:
    Newt Gingrich 29%
    Romney 14%
    Thompson 14%
    Giuliani 14%
    Brownback 11%
    Huckabee 7%

    Vice President:
    Gingrich 17.5%
    Hunter 12.5%
    McCain 12.5%
    Thompson 12.5%
    Sanford 12.5%
I would say maybe 50 people voted in that poll

I did however come across "Ron Paul for President" on the sidewalk and on some signs though, so maybe the Paul Supporters missed that meeting.

Fred Thompson....why is he ALWAYS at the bottom on the polls here?
Because hes the person that the so called liberal media has been telling republicans to vote for and for some reason they sheepishly buy into it.

edit: All you heard for months is that "hes the guy that republicans want, hes the real conservative, etc etc etc on CNN", they are telling the republicans that they wanted him before they even knew it, not they simply just beat it into their heads that they want him. Hes been waiting for so long because it was working so well for him and not that hes entered its only down hill from here unless the media can continue hyping him.

Paula Zahn is telling you who you are going to vote for.

Ron Paul supporters: get over it.
The man is shunned by his party, and outside the internet constantly polls around the margin of error. The only reason he's so seemingly popular is that he's huge with the 18-24 internet using but non voting male demographic.

The presidential election is still a long way off. Plenty of time to wake up more people. He can still create a ground swell and you must admit if he ran as an independent would draw voters from both of the grand old parties as well as many independents.

Regardless we know only the smartest and most educated post here at TWC so who ever we pick should be the winner no matter what the rest of those peasants in the US think.

"Wake up" more people to what exactly?
As far as I know, Ron Paul's platform is that everything in the country needs to be abolished and everything outside it needs to be ignored.
I realize that a lot of college kids might think "DUDE LEGAL WEED!!!", but his agenda goes to such extremes that I'm thankful almost no one will vote for him. And even if by a fluke people did, he'd still have the house and senate to contend with.
