    Migratory Danes

Played in SS 4.1 with Lusteds latest CAI and Battle AI.

    Year 1080

A plague sweeps the north, decimating my people and free man alike, it runs through the veins of the afflicted like hellfire, and no amount of blood letting, or praying for forgiveness for perceived sins, can ease the suffering. What brought this blight upon my people, be it from foreigner or the lord almighty, I know not. Only that this is a storm that we cannot weather.

It is with a weary heart that I, King Knud, order the preparation for the migration of my people, those not of old age or wracked with the sickness, from our ancestral lands.

    Year 1093

It has taken my people many a year to gather stores and warriors needed for the long, harsh journey ahead. These past ten years I have sent agents of the crown far and wide to search for a new home for my people, and of the many that returned, the tells of the vast stretching planes and fertile grounds of Leon Castle and Portugal hold most promise for a new life. Filled with people are these lands, unsuspecting of the doom that approaches them.

My emissaries have secured a temporary alliance with England and The Holy Roman Empire, so as to keep those left behind safe, until such a time comes when they may make the journey to our new home as well.

(To simulate this “migration”, using the command console, I will subtract a % of the population from each city and add that same % to the land that shall be the new home for the Danes.)

    Year 1104

We make landfall upon the Portuguese soil, raiding and pillaging miniscule villages on our way to Oporto, we let no civilians escape to warn of our coming. So swift is our movement, they have no time to call for reinforcements.

    Year 1105

So deep are the pockets of the pope lined with Portuguese gold that our army is immediately beset with threats of excommunication.

I am fighting for the existence of my people; I shun such vain threats from a senile old man.

At battles end, having assaulted the Castle with numerical superiority, I reflected that Jonas, a Portuguese general with no small amount of courage, stood to the last against a tide of Danish spears.

The civilians of Oporto wailed for their loss in tongues we Danes did not understand, I cared not for their misery and ordered the Castle and surrounding country side to be put to the sword, sparing only the women for concubines and boys just into their adulthood for slaves of labor. The slaughter of all others is necessity, to make room for my people, to slay these Portuguese citizens so that my countrymen will have land and board to settle.

    Year 1110

As 1800 of my people, the only ones left healthy enough to travel, settle into the lands around Oporto, rejoicing in the rich fertile fields, and their final escape from our plagued homeland.

Three years passed since my I sent my only daughter to the Aragon city of Zaragoza with hopes that her considerable charm would prove of aid in cementing an alliance. My daughter sent letter by runner, telling me of most wonderful news, during her stay at the Court of Aragon, she wooed Prince Alfonso so thoroughly that he was wrapped around her little finger.

In celebration, I gifted the King of Aragon with the cities of Arhus, Stockholm, and Norrkoping. Let this king repopulate these barren cities, my people having already made the migration to Oporto.

AN: well, thats all I got for now. Plans are to add plenty of more images as the action heats up. Any and all advice on how to make this better than it is, is most welcome. Thanks!

    Year 1111

A year since settlement has passed, and the eyes of my people turn southwards, hungry for the Mine rich land that surrounds Lisbon.

A network of spies and scouts has reported to me of movements on the borders of Lisbon and Cordoba. One held by the citizens of Portugal, the other by a Moorish Sultan. Both armies are commanded by the heirs to their kings rule, two host of over a thousand men each, all hungry for the battle to come.

The eyes of my warriors fill with bloodlust in anticipation to strike their flanks, to catch them unawares and to mark the ground with the blood of the last of the Portuguese kings heirs, to have his seed cut forever from the annuls of history.

    Year 1112

We march for the last heir of Portugal, with the first line being of mercenaries.

With superb luck, my forces given the advantage of height.

Away from the battle, me and Prince Afonso charge eachother, hopefully, it will be my blade lays this Prince to waste.

(AN: no~~~ >.< I was so busy sweeping my forces around to hit them in the rear I missed the killing blow on the prince.)

With their Princes death, the once mighty army breaks, and I order my bodyguards to slay all retreating forces. Let none return to home and stead.

The men cry out in glory, their blood lust stated upon the flesh of Portuguese spear and bowmen.

With battle won, I have the prisoners put to the sword. I will not chance that the enemy I defeat today will return to berth to harbor their hatred, and live to yet fight me again.

    Year 1114

We turn back for home, not having the forces needed to take the city of Lisbon, its garrison full. I order the mercenaries to make for Lisbon regardless, I know in doing so I condemn them to death, but with luck they will take a portion of the Kings last army with them.

    Year 1116

An earthquake strikes the Lisbon area; I cannot help but crow at my good fortune. 536 soldiers meet their demise in the upheaval.

I return home to discover my Daughter Cecilia has come of age, and does me proud for she is as every bit as lovely as her mother.

The king of Lisbon orders his men to march, seems he wants to crush these mercenary pests instead of letting them crash and waste themselves upon his walls.

The mercenaries rush forward to meet their deaths.

Surrounded, they are cut down like the dogs they were.

    Year 1117

I am troubled by the news my sons agents have given me. France has gobbled up all of Western Europe, and should she set her sites upon the kingdoms to the south, Leon-Castle, Aragon, and my people, her military might will sweep us aside like the tide.

(AN: I think im going to have to start use battle replays to find all the good scenes.)

I'm terribly sorry all, I had a report ready describing how I wiped out the Portuguese and booted the Moors off the continent. But alas, my computer contracted a virus, and I've just got done reformatting my hard-drive.

So, sorry, but this campaign is officially dead, maybe ill remake it again, yet this time without all the role playing. That stuffs allot harder than you might think.

PS. I was right about the French, they destroyed Leon-castle, Milan, and had conquered half of the English held territories. The Frenchies were scary, the number of stack armies they had running about
