Default Chivalry Total War Installation Question

I have a question involving this Mod. Can anyone explain to me how to install it? The instructions are a bit difficult to read and somewhat confusing. I am unsure of if I should just allow it to overwrite my Rome Total War folder and run it seeing as that I have Napoleonic Total War 2 also installed and it didn't overwrite anything in my RTW folder. Any help would be appericated.

You should probably post this in our sub forum to get a faster response, but you're lucky I saw this here, lol.

Anyways, just right click and go into the properties of the short cut, then make sure you have something like this in the target:

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War" -show_err -nm -mod:chivalry

and this in your start in:

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War"

thats including the quotation marks, and the underlined parts may change depending on the location of your Rome: Total War.exe

When I remember right, Napoleonic Total War is a full conversion mod, means it overwrites orginal RTW files.
You may not be able to use both mods together, no matter if you are able to install the shortcut.
Most mods need a clean RTW to install.

As opposed to just making a copy of your Rome Total War folder and allowing the Chivalry to overwrite it?

Uh... both mods use the "mod-folder" technique, neither of them should overwrite any vanilla files. I have both mods installed and using the same RTW folder and I have no problems... so unless you modified the vanilla files yourself or with some other mod, there should be no issues...

Anyways, I thought this was a shortcut question, you're not having issues with your install are you?

I allowed your mod installation to overwrite my Rome Total War mod even though I had Napoleonic Total War 2 also installed. I can run NTW2 and RomeTW fine. Though when I look at my dictionary, I don't see Chivalry Total War Folders or Files, at all. Where is it located? Also, for the shortcut extension, should I just edit the shortcut on my Rome Total War shortcut to run CTW or create the CTW Icon and than add the shortcut extension as you listed?

How exactly do I change the Target Type to allow it to automatically run Rome Total War when I clock on the Shortcut? For some reason, it goes to the CDrive Rome Total War Menu causing me to manually start the game compared to just using the shortcut. An image to show you what I'm talking about:

Well, all the CTW files should be located in the "chivalry" folder, which should be located in your main RTW folder, wherever you have that. As far as the shortcut, when you install the mod, one should be created on your desktop, I think, but its been a while. If not, there are shortcuts and icons for them located in the chivalry/CTW-Game Start Shortcut/ folder. Or, you can always just right click on your RomeTW.exe and create a shortcut.

Either way, once you have the shortcut, all you have to do is go into the properties and make sure the target says something like this:
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War" -show_err -nm -mod:chivalry
depending on the location of your RTW folder. (also, the -show_err and -nm are not necessary)

To change the target, all you should have to do is click on it and type, or paste the text in it.

P.S. I just noticed that your RTW is located in The Creative Assembly folder, meaning you probably have the gold version. Anyways, this of course means that you have to change the target path accordingly, but also, during installation, you must have specified the proper path as well, if the default was set to Activision/Rome - Total War/.

Alright, I think I got everything located and where it's suppose to be but I have one last question. Can you look at the links below and tell me if anything is out of order of where I placed the files and mod in general in order for it to work correctly?

Man, I'll be playing this a lot once my copy of Medieval 2 Total War comes in the mail. About time someone made a Medieval Mod using the RTW engine.

Everything looks right! Of course, the best way to find out is to just double click the shortcut and see what you get.

Well, this version has been out since May, and the mod was started 2 or more years ago... but I hope you enjoy it!

Though when I clicked on the Icon, it keeps giving me this:

    http://aycu23.webshots.com/image/306...4527114_rs.jpg

    And Below,

    http://aycu37.webshots.com/image/282...3431599_rs.jpg

The Target Icon is merely an Icon. However, the Target Location lists it as Rome Total War as you can see below:

    http://aycu37.webshots.com/image/282...3431599_rs.jpg

    And lastly,

    http://aycu38.webshots.com/image/289...7630364_rs.jpg

It says that the program that opens the shortcut is an unknown application? Is that correct for the installation? I don't think it looks correct or something.

hmm, yeah, target type should be "application"

have you tried right clicking on your RomeTW.exe and creating a shortcut? Do that, and then change the target path properly and it should work.

You can select which icon it will use later in its properties, by clicking "change icon" and browsing to find the CTW icon that you like.

Alright, can you list me exactly line by line of what I have to enter for the Target and Start In Location as listed above?

Some of your instructions have a missing " at the end of the line for each shortcut command and yet it doesn't even work with both " entered and not.

um, they don't have a missing " , its just not at the end of the line, take a closer look:

    Target line should read:
    "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War" -show_err -nm -mod:chivalry

    and start in line:
    "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War"

But if you right click on the RomeTW.exe to create the shortcut, the "start in" line doesn't change, you just have to add a space, and then -mod:chivalry to the target line

uh, ok??? When you created the shortcut, are you sure you clicked on the RomeTW.exe and not on the folder to create it?

I don't see why/how else it could do this...

You mean this or is it the wrong one I'm using in terms of creating a short cut from.

    yes, thats the right one

You had me worried there just now that I was telling you something wrong, since it doesn't seem to be working for you... but I just tried it:
I right clicked on the .exe, created a shortcut, moved it to the desktop, added a *space* and -mod:chivalry in the target line (changed nothing else) double clicked it, and it worked...

took me 5 seconds to do it... I don't know what could be wrong that you are having so much trouble getting it to work...

I honestly don't know why this isn't working for me. It ALWAYS changes to a File Folder.

For Christ Sakes, I'm entering the damn Target as this: "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War" -show_err -nm -mod:chivalry

and I leave the Start In Shortcut alone, I don't change anything with it. I must have *****y luck or something because I have been going at this the entire day and it doesn't even work.

I mean, when I look at my Rome Total war shortcut, it says this:

    "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe"

in "s, but than you said it doesn't matter if it's like this: "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War" -show_err -nm -mod:chivalry

Should I have added the other " or leave it open? Do I do it without the damn "'s in general?

ah, oups, seems like it's an error on our part... uh, yeah, it should be:

    "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err -nm -mod:chivalry

yeah... cuz when I tried it, I didn't change anything except in adding -mod:chivalry, and I didn't notice that what I posted didn't have "RomeTW.exe" in it, as I just copy/pasted what DaVinci wrote... real sorry about that... it should work now though... can't believe no one has ever pointed that out before...
