Diplomacy / Bribing Questions
In the Vanilla game it is very easy and cheap to bribe rebels and other Roman Factions, but in the Gold edition it is impossible with other Romans and expensive with rebels certainly at the start
Will this change later on in the game and if not is there any scripting advice people can give to alter this problem

Re: Diplomacy / Bribing Questions
Sounded more like an advantage to me! I hate the bribing and would rather get rid of it...
Anyway have a look in export_descr_character_traits.txt and see which traits have
Effect BribeResistance 10
or similar, that's the only way I know of of adjusting the likelihood / expense of accepting a bribe. Then see if the starting generals in descr_strat have the traits with that effect, or if the trigger for those traits has a high probability of occuring, that would be one explanation of the increase.
The other quite likely explanation is that its a hard-coded change as much of the diplomacy is hard coded. If it is and you want to reverse process you could try giving generals traits with
Effect BribeResistance -10
etc...
Make a back up copy of any file before you change it, see if you can find detailed instructions in the tutorials section, and reply here if you have any specific queries.

Re: Diplomacy / Bribing Questions
100 % hard-coded. Don't remember in which patch, though.
I haven't mod traits for a long time, so I try it. But I don't know how to change cost for captains, only for named generals and diplomats.
It would be cool if someone knows how to do it...
in export_descr_character_traits.txt before trigger-section add this:
;------------------------------------------
Trait BribeResistance
Characters family
Hidden
Level BribeResistance
Description BribeResistance_desc
EffectsDescription BribeResistance_effects_desc
Threshold 1
Effect BribeResistance -8
;------------------------------------------
Trait BribeResistanceD
Characters diplomat
Hidden
Level BribeResistanceD
Description BribeResistanceD_desc
EffectsDescription BribeResistanceD_effects_desc
Threshold 1
Effect BribeResistance -10
and this at the end of file:
;------------------------------------------
Trigger briberesist
WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd
Affects BribeResistance 1 Chance 100
Affects BribeResistanceD 1 Chance 100
(this will make trait be applied on the 2nd turn)
Than add this to the export_VnVs.txt in Data/text folder:
{BribeResistance} BribeResistance
{BribeResistance_desc}
bribe trait.
{BribeResistance_effects_desc}
-80 bribing.
{BribeResistanceD} BribeResistanceD
{BribeResistanceD_desc}
bribe trait.
{BribeResistanceD_effects_desc}
-100 bribing.
By doing this 3star diplomat's cost drops from $3040 to $760 and gallic general costs around $6000
BTW, I also hate bribery, even instead of "xxx_bribed" have " ** **** ******!!! " in export_titles and have always good assassin to deal with ai diplomats...

Re: Diplomacy / Bribing Questions
Hi Guys
Thanks for your advice and help, given me a lot to think about and some very useful insights into what to do
Must be honest and say that I am only interested in picking up the occasional rebel or roman and that seems to be hardcoded out or in the rebels case priced up
It is an advantage to know the situation at the beginning of a campaign, so if anybody hates the bribing then buy white label or the gold edition

Or simply patch your game.

Re: Diplomacy / Bribing Questions
Sorry to drag up an old thread, anyone make any headway over the years on this bribery thing? I would love to get rid of it, As I have noticed in my mod, The AI is using it a fair bit on reb towns, They have great strong garrisons and then are gone after one turn. It really messes up campaigns. regards, all, mags
