Default naval units - movement range

is there any way to increase the movement range of naval units, or is it something hardcoded? I'm pretty sick and tired of it taking like 6 turns to move from Syracuse to Alexandria by ship... when I think it took a week at most during that time.. realism!

You just attacked your own argument lol

    It's not historical.

And there probably isn't also because

    of your statement's second part

well... 6 turns does actually feel like a week worth of playing

I'm playing with the 4 turns per year... so really a year and a half in terms of game time, but still, that does seem rather long

and I was wondering if the movement points could be increased by editing that descr_stat file or whatever its called

Get your fleet admiral more command stars! It's the legal way to get more movement points Each star if I'm not mistaken gives you +10% additional movement points. Once I saw a roman admiral having 7 stars. It was impossible to catch him.
