    Default Ram is getting burned

I just increased the unit scale and it seems like the settlement towers fire more arrows because all my rams have gotten burned.

With normal unit scale, less than half my rams got destroyed.

How do you protect your RAM?

I just send 2 rams towards the same gate and hope they spit the fire between the 2 or send in a tower right next to the ram.

I usually send two rams like you do, but often they end up getting burned as well. What I tend to do then, is to focus on capturing walls, then moving along to the gate to take control that way, and let the cavalry do their work.

Rams are useless in MTW2. Just use ladders and towers.

It's not so much about protecting your rams as it is about massing them. Make two or three rams if you want to break into the gates, but also make a seige tower or two for the nemy to shot at. Even if you do not use these, it will draw some fire. The usual archer screen is of course needed.

In my experience this is really the only advice needed. I have never had more than one Ram burned when sacking a city. I argue that if you have three rams and send them all to the front one of them will make it.

I found a decent way to Protect Rams...

Take a group of Light Infintry Against Flaming arrows that makes them hard to hit. If they have extra stats in the Total Defense then you can just activate the groups Defense Guard put them on loose and have them walk in front of your ram. I done this twice and now and they take the hits for the ram, once you get to the walls your ram will have0% damage done to it. ^^

I don't understand why sometimes my rams advance under a hail of fire and get 0% damage (and they are the only siege equipment around), and sometimes they get nailed. Does the AI just sometimes shoot the men and sometimes the rams?

Anyways I have a better tactic (okay it doesn't always work), having spies opening the gates and storming them. I hate fighting on the battlements in M2 my units always seem to get pwned.

Which leads me to a question of my own. If my spies open the gates of a settlement, does that mean they open ALL the gates...? If so...

I always send useless and cheap mercenaries or militia first in front of the gates. After they have left my battle lines I send my rams, ladders etc.. after them. The towers and archers concentrate on the poor souls first and leave mostly my siege equipment in peace. This is very evil as I sacrifice them on purpose to protect my siege equipment, but I always think of them as prisoners of war and instead of killing them, I let them be killed by their own people! :-)

This has always worked for me! Try it and you will see it works.

P.S Should they surivive once the siege equipment is in place I let them join in on the fight, but mostly there are only a few left (if any!)

i know this kinda late but what u could do is go into the data and change the health not dramatically but enough to increase your odds of makin it to the gate b4 it gets destroyed...

Or you could have a decoy unit in front of the Ram which will therefore take the majority of fire arrows fired at the ram, make sure they are in front of the ram and make sure their only peasants or a cheap unit. More a spoiler then a strategy though.

Perhaps use circling missile cavalry to draw fire... that's my usual strategy as Hungary. Or spread ranged units, either expendable Balkan Archers or tough Pavise Crossbowmen. If you're desperate, you can use mercenaries/peasants, but I don't recommend it.
