Stride sensors
Hello
My girlfriend just got a new wristwatch that comes with a stride sensor, that apparently measures how fast the wearer is running. Does anyone know how? It's not like it's got a built-in GPS, so how does it know how fast you're running? Gyroscopes?

Re: Stride sensors
I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with gyros' and sensors that calculate the time it takes to "bound" in each step, and how fast a bound would be for each step and speed.
Either that or we've started using little aliens to live in the watch and constantly calculate the speed the person is travelling at... again.

Re: Stride sensors
They cheat - they let you tell it, once - after calibrating it, it's reasonably accurate. Already wondered how they did that, indeed, I know a guy with MUCH longer legs than mine, even though we're nearly the same length we have a completely different build. He'd do the same distance in 4/5 of my numer of strides, probably.
