Problems with Update 2

i have just got a new computer.

really good and all.
installed Medival 2 total war and played it unpatched for some time,
runs like a dream. max graphics no stuttering att all anywere. only played offline.

then i decide to pick up the newest patch for online play.
download it and install it no problems but when i try to start the game i get this new screen.
with some voting thingy and some online features articles and stuff,
i click play and the screen goes very dark.
if i move close to the screen i can see a small windows window but now read what it says,

smart as i am i hit Printscreen,and barely i can see the ok buttom on the dark window. i hit it and the screen is normal desktop again then i open paint and paste.

the dark window (now normally bright) says:

Medival 2 Total war have ocurred unknown problems,
program will end now which is what it did when i clicked the buttom

im sure its a valid download as i was pointed to it by a guy who it worked for.

Help me

Damn, no one gave you any suggestions yet? I'm more then a little surprised. Post all your PC stats that might give someone an idea.

CA thought they were being brilliant by fabricating some annoying game launcher thing. I believe it needs .NET Framework (either 1.1 or 2.0, I'm not sure). It's in the patch and installs this after the patch, maybe something went wrong there. So it wil prob. work if you install .NET FW yourself.

But I wouldn't make that effort. That launcher is in fact more of a nuisance than a pleasure. I made a new shortcut to the executable in the m2tw map that launches the game. I don't know the exact name, since I don't have m2tw installed at the moment (I can't get it to work with Vista), but it's very obvious wich one it is.

I also think .NET framework is causing this, because when I try again and start the game after the first time it got an unspecified error (with 1.2patch installed), then I get a .NET framework something something window and I really can't figure it out. I've had problems with netframewrok before to reallly annoying ****. Atleast 1.0 works for me to, so Im not going to install that patch again for a long time.

Downloading Net framework 2.0 from the net to make sure its correktly installed.
then ill try with the Patch again. (after backing up)
but for some reason i dont think its that
would be too easy
