I havn't played much, but I think alliances are more loyal or something now. They havn't done anything totally stupid to me yet. IS this true?

Good question, i used to always get backstabbed as soon as i go on a crusade or island hopping, but now it seems that they are nicer.. maybe cos smaller map?
Not really, i signed a alliance with the Teutonic Order (as Novgorod) and the next turn they besieged one of my cities, apart form that... its all been good (especially the Crusades campaign).

And I drank it strait down.
its not bad as Spain in America, when allied with Aztecs. They're pretty good about keeping peace while you try to rape the myans, I've noticed.

i think there is an improvement at least in crusades and britannia (but in my game as egypt my allies where nearly killed by byzanz, Antiochia and the mongols invasion). Until now the greatest improvement is that your relations improve under certain circumstances (if you fight a shared enemy). but it still occurs that ai declares pointless war only for blocking one harbour with one ship. that is quite annoying, but in my last game venice always paid high reparations for a ceasefire after one or two rounds. more artificial than intelligent i think.
Well my Americas campaign has been going well and logical. Never had an alliance with the Aztecs, but longstanding allies amongst the Tlaxacans, Chichimecs and Tarascans. In fact I have been funnelling large sums of money (I'm New Spain) regularly to the Tlaxacans with the Attack Enemy: Aztecs proviso. Well the Tlax have taken at least one Aztec city since, although now I think they have run out of steam. The Mayans are destroyed and I couldn't be bothered to take on the whole Aztec Empire on my own yet. This way the Tlax are certainly a big thorn in the side of the Aztecs. Attacks against me by the Aztecs since I started this diplomatic war have dropped to nothing. Very satisfying knowing this part of the diplomacy engine is working.
So far no stupid war declarations, the only alliances broken have been my alliances with the Chichimecs and the Apaches, who both attacked another faction with whom I had an alliance, so I had to decide who to support. No contest, I chose to support the closer ally in both cases
I also got Trade Rights with the French and an alliance with the English Colonies despite the game urging me to throw these fellow Europeans back into the sea. So far one of my most satisfying diplomatic games![]()
