Population for Barbarian provinces, how do you keep it under control, since when they gain 15,000+ population, garrison numbers tend to mean the bonus on tax isn't really worth it. Other than make units what do your do?
Thanks for any replies.

May if use cheats you can can can get few population in the settlement for example press (`) during play the game and type this cod:
add_population "settlement name" -number
so when do that for rome city I should type
(add_population Rome -20000)that will dicreased the population of Rome by 20000
Thats one thing that always bugged me about RTW. The Romans were always very good at convincing local populations to not revolt. Basically it was in their best interest to conform, and since they let them remain culturally distinct for the most part it wasn't demanding much more than a few recruits and the taxes to be sent to Rome instead of the local, now former, magnate.
The idea of Romanizing settlements seems a-historical. The process occurred, but slowly, and it was not specifically a deliberate function of keeping the peace. Rome had an overriding law which took over only when local law wasn't sufficient: ie. when a foreign trader was having an argument with a local merchant and it could not be satisfactorily resolved via local custom.
So thats one thing I always didn't like. At least in PE the Italic provinces require minimal garrisons. They always were staunch allies once they were truly conquered.

Haedar - Indeed I know about that but using that would spoil my game. Little old me doesn't like to cheat, other than "toggle_fow". And even that is used only ever 10-15 years.
Boromir - It does indeed get out of control. And its true barbarian factions should have an added bonus to population support. Simply put their fun factions, that keep the populations support by not forcing but putting in social buildings, e.g. Tavern. And because of barbarians tending to live in quite rugged housing surely this would mean that they would be less unhappy with the size of the settlement than say Romans, who fear living outside of the city walls while barbarians do not.
P Funk - Thanks for the response. However I was talking about barbarian factions and already/just conquered settlements that are basically already fully under your control. And so have no reason to revolt other than for the lack of living space/squalor in the settlement.

Does anyone have anymore methods on how you keep your extensive populations under control while playing barbarian factions, other than using cheats to limit/cut the population of settlements? Or is this just a problem barbarian factions simply have to deal with?
Well tjis might seem like "old school" ore something but build temples and such making public order. And sometimes taking out som of your troops helps in a weird way.
I think the barbarians deserves a little law and/or happiness bonus'.
Otherwise the public order will get out of hand on higher pop.

I don't know if you consider it to be cheat, but as I said, some bonuses to any of their buildings, like their govenor houses.
I think its fair.

While not much can be done for RTR 6 Gold (or even RTRPE), in RTR VII (since we use BI 1.6 engine) the barbarian factions have the ability to reach the huge city level so the over-population effect wont be much felt as it is now.
They still however wont have added level of other building, either militarily or commercially though.

Companion Cavalry - Ha-ha!
You have a point :-p, debatable over them being cannibals though :-).
Bah, send them on suicide expedition to conquer britain![]()
Lmao, so the general consensus bowls down to:
Keep your population down by killing off your populations on suicidal missions!
Love it ha-ha.
actually, you could use those extra people to help another faction. Send them into the heart of the enemy of your friend and reek havok, then watch your ally enjoy the spoils.
